Bulletin HY07-1235-T2/UK
Installation and Commissioning
– Secure the shell of the accumulator to a support, or
enclose it so that movement in the event of failure of its
connection to the hydraulic installation is restrained or
prevented.
– If a Parker safety block is not employed, ensure that the
accumulator is connected to the hydraulic circuit using
appropriate connecting devices.
– Check that the fluid is compatible with the equipment.
– Check that the maximum allowable pressure of the accum-
ulator is equal to or greater than that of the hydraulic circuit.
– Observe the temperature and pressure limits and, if
necessary, fit a rupture disk or valve to protect against
damage from overpressure.
– Fit a filter to the hydraulic circuit and/or carry out internal
inspections as often as necessary where an abrasive fluid
is used.
The following are strictly prohibited:
– Welding, riveting or screwing any parts to the accumulator;
– Carrying out any operation that could affect the mechanical
properties of the accumulator;
– Using the accumulator as a structural element: it must not
be subject to any stress or load;
– Altering the accumulator without the prior agreement of the
manufacturer;
– Using a Group 1 (hazardous) fluid with apparatus designed
and manufactured for a fluid in Group 2.
Commissioning
Nitrogen Pre-charging
Gas pre-charging can be performed before or after the installation
of the bladder accumulator in the hydraulic circuit.
– Attach the accumulator to its mounting.
– Mark out a safe working area and adopt a position which is
not in line with the accumulator ports or openings.
– Charge the bladder accumulator to the specified pressure
using a Parker UCA charging and gauging assembly (refer
to Bulletin 1244-T regarding the safe use of this assembly).
– Do not exceed the maximum pressure specified by the
manufacturer: comply with the information on the shell and
nameplate.

Operating Instructions
BAE Series Bladder Accumulators
– Avoid charging and discharging repeatedly to minimise the
risk of damage to the bladder.
– Check for leaks from the gas valve, eg: by using soapy water.
Explosive – use only oxygen-free, dry nitrogen gas
with a minimum purity of 99.95%.
The use of an air compressor is strictly prohibited.
Hydraulic Pressurizing
– Check that the gas pre-charge pressure is correct for the
application.
– Ensure that the hydraulic pressure never exceeds the
maximum permissible pressure as indicated on the
accumulator shell and on the nameplate. Using a Parker
accumulator safety block with suitably rated pressure relief
valve will eliminate this possibility.
Maintenance
– Check the gas pre-charge pressure regularly during the first
few weeks of operation, and then at suitable intervals
afterwards based on this initial experience.
– Carry out a visual examination of the accumulator periodically
in order to detect any early signs of deterioration such as
corrosion, deformation etc.
– Comply with the regulatory provisions concerning the
monitoring of operational equipment.
– Before removal, it is vital to ensure that there is no residual
hydraulic pressure.
For disassembly and cleaning information, please contact your
local Parker Service Department.
Discharge the accumulator using a Parker UCA charging and
gauging assembly before carrying out maintenance operations.
Only genuine Parker Hannifin spare parts should be used.
Destruction and Recycling of the Accumulator
Before destroying or recycling, all pressure should be discharged
and the gas valve removed. Decontaminate if necessary.
