• See Selection Chart for starting recommendations.
• Active patients may require a stiffer bumper.
• Amputees who have previously worn a prosthesis without stance-flexion
feature may initially prefer a stiffer bumper.
• We suggest trying a softer bumper after two weeks of trial. This helps the
patient develop a security with the knee. Doing this will also help make the
transition to the stance-flexion characteristic more acceptable.
Foot Choice
• If the foot has a soft heel, use a soft bumper.
• If the foot has a hard heel, use a firm bumper.
Shim Selection
The thin, transparent plate (shim) is located under the elastomer bumper. The
shim raises the height of the bumper which affects the timing of the knee
release.
• Increasing shim thickness causes a quicker knee release.
• Active amputees may prefer the addition of shims to cause a quicker release
(for biking or rowing).
• The Total Knee maybe used without shims to make it more stable. This may
be indicated for new amputees.
• 0.38mm and 0.76mm shims are provided and may be stacked or removed to
provide specific function.
NOTE: Final bumper and shim selection will also depend upon the desired de-
gree of stance flexion (0-15°), impact levels, and stiffness of the prosthetic foot.
Removal of Shim or Bumper
To remove the bumper and/or shim, insert a small flat head screwdriver under
the elastomer bumper or shim and lift upwards. Both the bumper and the shim
attach on the two mounting posts.
Swing Control Adjustments
The model 2100 knee is designed to provide smooth and fluid swing control
during normal ambulation and will accommodate changes in cadence. To
assist in reducing excessive heel rise the 2100 also includes an adjustable
extension promoter. An optional extension assist can be added to the system to
expand the swing control range.
Adjust Flexion and Extension Resistance:
Figures D and E
• Locate the valve screws A, B and C as illustrated. Use a flat head screwdriver
for adjustments.
• Turning valves clockwise increases resistance;counter-clockwise decreases
resistance.
• Factory settings: The hydraulic valves are preset to the following settings.
Valve A: 3/4 open (Screw A)
14
Valve B: 3/4 open (Screw B)
