• Remove colored bumper and shim.
• Install spring cup into the 30mm hole found inside the 30mm hole used for
holding shin pylon, by putting a dowel into the bottom of the spring cup and
tapping gently into place with a mallet. It is very important to make sure the
spring cup is firmly seated to ensure proper function.
• Place ferrule over cable.
• Select the appropriate spring based on the desired rate of knee extension.
Three springs are available, yellow (regular), blue (firm) and red (extra-firm).
Use of a stiffer spring will allow for more rapid extension and will tend to
limit heel rise.
• Place spring over cable and ferrule. It is necessary for the spring to seat on
top of the flare of the ferrule.
• Insert the ball end of the cable through the spring cup and slide it through
the slot on the bottom linkage. Compress the spring by pushing on the end
of the cable while directing the ball end into the slot with needle nosed pliers
until it has seated into the pocket.
• Reinstall colored bumper and clear shim.
NOTE: The Extension Assist is OPTIONAL. We recommend use of the
Extension Assist only when the amputee is unable to extend the knee to engage
the geometric lock.
