Sample collection
A sample should be obtained using the Collection Swab.
n
Ten minutes prior to collecting the sample, the donor must not eat,
n
drink or smoke.
The donor must collect the sample.
n
The sample should be processed immediately.
n
Procedure
1. To collect an oral fluid sample actively swab the Collection Swab
around the gums, tongue and inside the cheek, until the sample
presence indicator turns completely blue. See diagram (a).
2. Remove foil lid from the buffer bottle.
3. Gently insert the Collection Swab into the insert within the buffer
bottle, bud-end first. See diagram (b).
4. Snap the stem of the Collection Swab by gently bending it at the
scored break-point. See diagram (c). Place the flip top lid on the
buffer bottle and turn it clockwise to tighten it.
5. Vigorously mix the contents of the bottle for 30 seconds.

6. Open the flip-top lid of the sample buffer bottle. Hold the bottle
vertically and apply four drops of the fluid across the sample well
of the Test Cartridge as shown above. See diagram (e). Wait 30
seconds to see each strip start to run, if they have not all started to
run then a fifth and final drop of buffer fluid can be applied.
7. Wait for five minutes. With the Test Cartridge arrow indicating left,
place the Windicator over the Test Cartridge making sure that the
clear window is properly positioned over the membrane strips to
allow a correct reading of results. See diagram (f).
8. Test results can now be read using the Windicator. Interpret results
immediately after applying the Windicator.
