Using the System as a Desktop Workstation
1. Power on the system as follows:
a. Turn on power to the monitor and for all system peripherals.
b. Press the back panel power switch on.
c. Verify that the power indicator LED above the front panel Standby switch is lit
and listen to verify that the system fans are spinning. If the LED is not lit, press
and release the front panel Standby switch.
2. When you are prompted, select either the Solaris 7 3/99 or Solaris 8 preinstalled
software. Refer to "Summary of Preinstalled Software Suites" on page en-6 for
more information.
Note – When you select the Solaris software version at initial power on, the version
that you did not select is deleted as the system configures itself for your choice. To
change your selection, you can restore either version from CD. See "Restoring the
Preinstalled Software" on page en-22 for more information.
Note – If you select the Solaris 8 software, disk slice 0 is made available as free disk
space. This space is configured as an ordinary UFS file system, and can also be used
a s swap. It must not be used for a PCFS file system, because this will corrupt the
disk label and prevent use of the disk.
Note – Some customers may wish to replace the preinstalled software with older
versions of Solaris software, such as versions 2.5.1 or 2.6. If you are installing Solaris
2.5.1 or 2.6 software, and you have a 440 MHz or faster processor, you must use a
Solaris 2.5.1 Hardware: 11/97 420+ MHz Installation CD (704-6657). Refer to the Solaris
2.5.1 and 2.6 for 420+ Mhz Systems Installation Guide (804-6658) that comes with the
CD for additional information.
