Using the System as a Server

The system can be used as a server if you install the server version of the Solaris
software. To use the system as a server:

Note – If you reinstall Solaris software to this system manually, you must set the
boot-device variable to match the disk slice where the Solaris software is
installed.
If you accepted the preinstalled software when you powered on the system, the
Solaris software slice differs, depending on which version of the Solaris software
you chose. Solaris 7 3/99 boots from disk:a, but Solaris 8 boots from disk:h. The
following chart shows how the disk slices correspond to the boot-device
variables.
