(1) INPUT You can connect an active or passive bass to this ¼" input jack.
The input stage of your bass amp is designed to adapt to any type
of pickup.
(2) GAIN switch Set the position of the GAIN switch according to the pickups
in your bass. Active pickups typically have a higher output than passive
pickups, and you should set the GAIN switch accordingly. If your bass uses
batteries, the pickups are active – if not, the pickups are passive.
(3) GAIN knob and PEAK LED The input gain should be set to the highest
possible level without overloading the input stage. To fi nd the correct
setting, simply plug in your bass, play and turn up the GAIN knob until the
PEAK LED occasionally lights up. Then reduce the gain slightly. When set,
simply turn up the MASTER volume knob to start playing.
(4) THRUST switch Set the THRUST switch to the upper position to activate
the THRUST compression.
(5) THRESH LED The THRESH LED will light up whenever your bass signal
exceeds the compression threshold and activates the THRUST compression.
(6) THRUST knob Turn the THRUST knob clockwise to add fatness and
sustain with the THRUST compression eff ect.
(7) TONE Controls The BQ250/BQ500 has four tone controls: BASS, LO-MID,
HI-MID and TREBLE. These controls have been tuned carefully to address
four relevant bass frequency areas, and should allow you to dial in your
sound with ease.
(8) MASTER level knob Use the MASTER knob to set the overall output level
of the amp. The MASTER knob also controls the level of the
headphone output.
(9) MAINS IN – Power switch & Power input The switched-mode power
supply of this device accepts voltages from 100V to 240V. The ground pin of
the power supply unit must always be connected in order to avoid voltage
diff erences between e.g. the PA and the BQ250/BQ500.

SPEAKER OUT Use the SPEAKER OUT connector for connecting
BQ250/BQ500 to speaker cabinets. Please note that this is a speakON
connector, and you must use speaker cables.
Do not use instrument cables!
For BQ250/BQ500, use a cabinet confi guration with
a minimum load of 4 Ohms. Examples:
• 2 x 8 Ohm (in parallel)
• 1 x 4 Ohm
(11)
AUX IN The AUX IN is a stereo auxiliary input. Any signal present on the
AUX IN jack is played back through all BQ250/BQ500 outputs. This allows
you to play along with a rehearsal track, or you can practice to the beat of
a metronome click. The included "mini jack to mini jack cable" allows you
to use an iPod®, iPhone® or any other consumer playback device as a source
for rehearsing.
(12)
PHONES (Speaker Mute) The PHONES jack is a 1⁄8" connector for
headphones. With a mild speaker fi lter applied to the bass sound, our
studio quality headphone amp caters for a great headphone sound.
The headphone output also plays back any signal connected to the
AUX IN input jack. This feature allows you to play along with an audio
player, a signal from a computer or any other audio source playing
background tracks.
(13)
PRE/POST EQ button Use the PRE/POST button located to the left side of
the BALANCED OUT jack to determine where in the signal chain the signal
for the balanced output should be tapped.
• PRE setting: The signal is tapped before the EQ.
• POST setting: The signal is tapped after EQ.
(14)
BALANCED OUTPUT Use the BALANCED OUT XLR jack to connect the
BQ250/BQ500 to the PA when you play on stage, or to connect your amp to
a recording device when you are in the studio.
THRUST BQ250/BQ500 Getting started
Protection mode
This product is equipped with an advanced protection system for both the amplifi er's and your own safety. These protection features should only kick in if you operate
this product under extreme conditions.
Be sure not to cover the BQ250/BQ500 cooling grid! Insuffi cient ventilation may cause the amplifi er's temperature to increase to critical values.
The BQ250/BQ500 is equipped with an intelligent protection system, ensuring that the amp does not suff er or malfunction if operated wrongly or in extreme
environments. When the amplifi er switches to protection mode, the speaker output is muted.
Protection mode is invoked...
• if a short circuit occurs (on speaker outputs).
• if the amplifi er is used in an environment that is too hot.
• if proper ventilation is not ensured.
• if the combined impedance of the internal speaker and an attached speaker is below 4 Ohms.
In Protection mode, the speaker outputs are shut off to prevent speaker damage. However, the balanced output still passes audio.
How to proceed in Protection mode
1. If the amplifi er does not automatically recover from Protection mode and feels hot, try turning off the amplifi er for a minute to let it cool.
Ensure suffi cient ventilation.
2. Ensure that your speaker cable is not defective, as such a defect could cause a short circuit.
3. Turn on the amplifi er again. If these steps do not solve the problem you will have to send the amplifi er to
a qualifi ed service center for inspection.
