Always wear eye protection when operating or
performing maintenance on this tool.
Always turn off the air supply and disconnect the air
supply hose before installing, removing or adjusting
any accessory on this tool or before performing any
maintenance on this tool.
LUBRICATION
Each time a Series 170PG or 180PG Scaler is
disassembled for maintenance and repair or replacement
of parts, pour about 3 cc of Ingersoll- - Rand No. 10 Oil in
the air inlet and operate the tool for 5 seconds to coat the
internal parts with oil.
DISASSEMBLY
General Instructions
1. Do not disassemble the tool any further than
necessary to replace or repair damaged parts.
2. Whenever grasping a tool or part in a vise, always use
leather- - covered or copper- - covered vise jaws to
protect the surface of the part and help prevent
distortion. This is particularly true of threaded
members and housings.
3. Do not remove any part which is a press fit in or on a
subassembly unless the removal of that part is
necessary for repairs or replacement.
4. Do not disassemble the Tool unless you have a
complete set of new gaskets and O- - rings for
replacement.
Disassembly of the Tool
1. Disconnect the air supply hose and clean all deposits
from the outside of the tool.
2. For Needle Scaler; Unscrew the Cap Head Screw (20)
and remove the Tubes (18 and 19), Needles, Anvil
(15), and Compression Spring (17).
For Chisel Scaler; Remove Chisel by turning the
knurled collar until the retaining ball is visible.
Unscrew the Cap Head Screw (20) and remove the
Chisel Holder Assembly (21).
3. Hold the end of the Cylinder (10) firmly in a vise with
the Cover Assembly (13) upward. Unscrew the Cover
from the Cylinder. The Cylinder is secured with a
retaining compound and might require a sharp blow to
break the bond.
4. Remove O- - ring (11), O- - ring (12) and Piston (9).
5. Hold the Cover Assembly firmly in a vise with the
Valve Body (1) upward and unscrew and remove the
Valve Cap (2) along with the O- - ring (3), Valve Spring
(4), Valve Stem (5) and Valve Stem O- - ring (6).
6. Turn the Valve Body over and secure it in a vise with
the Throttle Lever (7) up.
MAINTENANCE SECTION
