Accessory Installation
Always turn off the air supply and disconnect the air
supply hose before installing, removing or adjusting any
accessory on this tool or before performing any
maintenance on this tool.
Installation of Needles
Loosen the Cap Head Screw (20) on the Intermediate Tube
(18) and remove the Tube Assembly with the Compression
Spring (17) inside. Make sure to notice how all of the parts fit
together inside the Intermediate Tube. Improper assembly
will damage the tool when it is used. Remove the Anvil (15)
from the Needle Holder (16) and change the Needles as
illustrated in Dwg. TPA1828. Make sure that the small
diameter on the Anvil fits inside the Needle Holder. Place this
cartridge into the Intermediate Tube, refit the Tube Assembly
onto the body and tighten the Cap Head Screw.
LUBRICATION
Ingersoll- -Rand No. 10
Always use an air line lubricator with these tools.
We recommend the following Filter- -Lubricator- -Regulator
Unit:
For USA - - No. C08- -02- -FKG0- -28
Before attaching the air hose, place about 3 cc of
Ingersoll- -Rand No. 10 Oil into the air inlet. This should be
done each day, even when an air line lubricator is used.
During the working day, check the tool to ensure that the
retainer components are lubricated.
After each two or three hours of operation, if an air line
lubricator is not used, disconnect the air hose and pour about
3 cc of Ingersoll- -Rand No. 10 Oil into the air inlet of the tool.
If the action of the Scaler becomes sluggish, pour about
3 cc of a suitable cleaning solution into the air inlet and run
the tool for not more than thirty seconds. Immediately after
flushing the tool, pour about 3 cc of Ingersoll- -Rand No. 10
Oil into the air inlet and run the tool for about thirty seconds
to lubricate internal parts.
ADJUSTMENTS
PLACING TOOL IN SERVICE
3
As Needles wear, the Front Tube (19) must be pulled back
on the Intermediate Tube so that 1 inch (25 mm) of Needle
length sticks out of the Front Tube. To do this, loosen the
Cap Head Screw, adjust the Front Tube and retighten the
Screw.
Fitting the Chisel Holder
To fit the Chisel Holder (21), loosen the Cap Head Screw (20)
on the Intermediate Tube (18) and remove tubes complete
with Needle Holder (16), Needles, Anvil (15) and
Compression Spring (17).
Model 170PG has a grip thread and Model 180PG has a
screw thread.
Fit the Chisel Holder onto the Cylinder (10) and tighten the
Cap Head Screw. Turn the knurled collar until the retaining
ball is visible, insert the selected Chisel and locate the rebate
on the ball. Tighten the Collar one- -half turn to lock the
Chisel into the Holder.
Before storing a Scaler or if the Scaler is to be idle for a
period exceeding twenty- -four hours, pour about 3 cc of
Ingersoll- -Rand No. 10 Oil into the air inlet and operate the
tool for 5 seconds to coat the internal parts with oil.
