Fan Starter 11/18.5/22, 11/18.5/22 PTC installation

NOTE!
See the electrical diagrams included with Fan Starter.
NOTE!
Always pay attention to local legislation when sizing the cables and
fuses.
Dimension the cables and fuses in accordance with the motor current.
Too little space in a 24 V system can cause a poor short circuit protection. So
for terminals 3 to 116, use a cable with a minimum diameter of 1,5 mm
cable is up to 10 meters long. Use a cable with a minimum diameter of 2,5 mm
if cable is between 10 to 20 m long. Use a larger cable if its length is longer
than 20 meters.
The current value for the motor overload protector has to be set. For NCF EX
shall the value be maximum 0,9 x normal value. See the motor plate.
NOTE!
For the Y/D starter set the value to 0,58 x 0,9 x motor current at 400
V(D).
The time relay for the Y-D time (K4T) is pre-set to 15 s. During the first fan
start, pay attention to how the fan speeds up. If possible, measure the motor
current. Adjust the Y-D time so that the contactors switch over just when
the fan does not speed up any more, and the current stops decreasing. The
Y-contactor is dimensioned for Y-D time = 20 s maximum. The full scale for
K4T is 1 min.
Connect the motor according to the electrical diagrams. Check that the fan
rotates in a clockwise direction. If it is necessary to change the fan rotation
direction, it is important to do it in accordance with the electrical diagrams.
Install a separate safety/maintenance switch close to the fan, if the fan and the
Fan Starter are mounted in different locations. Connect the control contact in
the safety/maintenance switch to Fan Starter (terminals 109-110).
To make the fan start more easily, the airflow could be restricted by a damper
during the fan start. FilterMax has a function to delay the opening of the down
time damper at fan start. If FilterMax and a down time damper is installed,
set the "dA" time according to the actual fan start time. For a Y/D start, it is
normally 15-20 s. See figure 2.
NOTE!
See FilterMax instruction manual.

Operation

Set the selector switch to "1" to start Fan Starter. The pilot light is lit when
the fan or system starts.
Set the selector switch to "0" to turn off Fan Starter.
Set the selector switch to "Auto" if Fan Starter is connected to external
equipment such as FilterMax, MAGNA-system or automatic dampers.
NOTE!
If the yellow warning lamp is lit, see the troubleshooting section.
