In addition to the common motor overload protector, there is in Fan Starter
PTC a relay for the PTC thermistors in the NCF EX motor.
Fan Starter is prepared for connection with different components in an
extraction system. If Neutral is connected (N), a single-phase supply of 230 V
is available for external equipment such as FilterMax, MAGNA-system or
automatic dampers. Supply with 24 V AC is also available for Fan Timer or
other external 24 V AC equipment.
The 24 V AC can be connected continuously (terminals 3-4), or with S1 in
position "AUTO". (Terminals 111-112, are not available when connected to
FilterMax).
Fan Starter can be started and stopped by using the black and white selector
switch on the door. Turn the selector switch to position "1" to start the fan. Turn
the selector switch back to position "0" to stop the fan.
Position "AUTO" is used to start and stop Fan Starter when it is connected to
external start/stop signals. For example, Fan Timer or other maintained start/
stop signals as well as a remote impulse start and stop can be connected to Fan
Starter. The external start signal must be a potential free contact and is to be
connected to terminals 115-116.
When connected to FilterMax, the AUTO-0-1 switch acts as a remote start
switch for the FilterMax. The FilterMax Fan start-output will then activate the
contactors in Fan Starter. With FilterMax, the remote impulse start and stop can
not be connected.
The white pilot light indicates the fan is on. The yellow warning lamp indicates
that the motor overload protector has been tripped. If Fan Starter is connected
to FilterMax, the warning lamp indicates the ALARM signal (service or
A-Alarm). A tripped motor overload protector will be indicated on the
FilterMax Control panel with a red lamp at the fan symbol. See figure 2.
The start of an NCF fan is a rather heavy start, and repeated starts will trip
the motor overload protector. There is a timer installed for delayed fan stop
when repeated stops could be expected. Turn the selector switch to position
"AUTO" when the start signal is given from external contacts such as a hood or
automatic dampers.
To start Fan Starter from extraction arms with a built in hood light, a voltage
separation relay must be used.
