Check Safety Interlock System
1. Start the mower.
2. Release the blade control. The engine must stop
within 3 seconds.
If the engine does not stop within 3 seconds, do not
use the mower. Bring the mower to an authorized
dealer for service.
Clean Debris Off Mower
WARNING
!
DO NOT attempt any maintenance, adjustments or service
with engine and blade running. STOP engine and blade.
Disconnect spark plug wire and secure away from spark
plug. Engine and components are HOT. Avoid serious
burns, allow sufficient time for all components to cool. Wear
heavy leather gloves when handling or working around
cutting blades. Blades are extremely sharp and can cause
severe injury.
1. Clean dirt and debris from the top of the mower
deck.
2. Clean any debris buildup on or around the engine,
etc.
While cleaning, check components for wear or dam-
age. Replace worn or damaged components immedi-
ately.
Washout Port
WARNING
!
• Use appropriate eye protection.
• Keep people and pets out of the area.
• Stay behind the handle while the engine is running.
• Do not attempt mowing operations while using the
washout port.
• Do not attempt to look under or reach under the mower
deck for any reason while using the washout port.
Serious injury can result.
The washout port allows hands-free cleaning of the
underside of the mower deck. To use the washout port:
1. Be sure the grass bag and side discharge deflector
are removed.
2. Set the height of cut to the lowest position.
3. Move the mower to a level, paved surface.
4. Stop the engine.
5. Connect the male end of a standard garden hose
to the washout port connector (A, Figure 16).
6. Turn on the water supply to the garden hose.
7. Start the engine and run until no more debris
emerges from under the mower deck.
8. Stop the engine.

9. Turn off the water supply to the garden hose.
10.Disconnect the garden hose from the washout port
connector.
11.Start the engine and run for 2-3 minutes, to allow
the underside of the mower deck to dry.
