Remedy
• Check the antenna or cable connection to the main unit.
• Check the batteries of the remote control.
• Check if there is an obstacle between the infrared sensor window and the remote control.
• Test the signal output. If OK, then possible remote sensor trouble. (Refer to "IR Signal Check"
on page 49.)
• Aim the remote control directly at the infrared sensor window on the front of the unit.
• Reduce the distance to the unit.
• Re-insert the batteries with their polarities (+/– signs) as indicated.
Problems with Closed Caption Feature
• Closed captioning production companies may broadcast programs without correcting
the misspelling in a live broadcast.
• Captions that are delayed a few seconds behind the actual dialogue are common for live
broadcasts. Most captioning production companies can display a dialogue to a maximum of
220 words per minute. If a dialogue exceeds that rate, selective editing is used to insure that
the captions remain up-to-date with the current TV screen dialogue.
• Interference from buildings or weather conditions may cause captioning to be incom-
plete.
• Broadcasting station may shorten the program to insert advertisement. The closed cap-
tion decoder cannot read the information of the shortened program.
• The cassette tape may be illegally copied, or the caption signal might not have been
read during copying.
• The text mode is selected for caption. Select "CAPTION1", "CAPTION2" or "OFF".
• Adjust tracking control.
• Try video head cleaning.
• The cassette tape may be old or worn. Replace with new one.
• Make sure the cassette tape has an erase-prevention tab. If necessary, cover the hole
with plastic tape.
• Make sure the begin/end time is set correctly.
• Make sure the power is off to activate timer recording.
• Check if the unit's clock is set to current time and date.
• The program may contain copy protection signals that restrict copying.
• The timer setting overlapped with another setting has priority.
• Check if the cassette tape reached the end during recording.
• Check if the power failure during recording.
• You cannot copy a copyrighted cassette tape. You are experiencing copy guard protec-
tion.
• Make sure the disc is compatible with the unit.
• Check the disc for fi ngerprints/scratches and clean with a soft cloth wiping from center
to edge.
• Clean the disc.
• Ensure the disc is correctly inserted.
• Check if the disc is defective by trying another disc.
• Cancel the parental lock or change the control level.
• Insert a correct disc that can be played back on this unit.
• Handle a disc with special care so that it does not have fi ngerprints, scratches, or dusts on its surface.
• To completely reset the unit, unplug the power cord from the power outlet for 5-10
seconds.
• Operations may not be permitted by the disc. Refer to the instructions of the disc.
• The angle cannot be switched for DVD which do not contain multiple angles. In some
cases multiple angles are only recorded for specifi c scenes.
• Check the parental setting.
• Enter the default password "4737", then your forgotten password will be cleared.
