SOUND COLUMN
GENERAL
Sound columns are special sound speakers, designed to satisfy specific
directivity requirements. Using the acoustic principle of phase interferences
between two or more loudspeakers, placed near each other along a vertical
axis, it is possible to reduce the vertical angle of the output sound front.
The higher the number of speakers, the smaller the output angle.
Reducing this angle makes it possible to limit the quantity of sound energy
directed towards reflecting surfaces (such as floors and ceilings), thus
increasing the intelligibility of the diffused program even in environments
with a high level of reverberation.
DESCRIPTION
This column uses high-performance loudspeakers with an extended
response range. The structure is made of walnut heartwood while the cloth
on the front panel consists of acoustically transparent fabric. Thanks to the
built-in high-pass filter, also called a "SPEECH ENHANCER", it is possible
to improve intelligibility of the reproduced sound in environments with a high
level of reverberation by attenuating the lowest frequencies of the audio
spectrum. The filter can be included or excluded by means of a switch
provided for this purpose. The column has a line transformer with a rotary
attenuation selector. Installation and connection are therefore extremely
easy operations, thanks also to the AC904 (Figure 3) jointed fixing device
included in the supply, that can be used to mount the column so that it has
a very low environmental impact and enabling it to be turned in any direction.

INSTALLATION AND USE

For column positioning you shall keep into account the specific coverage
angles, as shown in the Technical specifications . You shall choose the right
height at which the column shall be placed and the tilting angle towards the
distribution area to avoid "dimmed" listening zones (i.e. outside the column's
sound coverage angle).
Once the most suitable position has been determined, it will be necessary
to secure the bracket [E] (Figure 3) to the column using the four screws [B]
as illustrated in Figure 2. It is recommended that the screws and/or anchor
bolts used to secure the seat [G] of the AC904 support to the wall be
chosen in relation to the weight of the column and the material of which the
wall is made. After securing the seat [G] into place, insert the bracket [E]
into the hole [H] (Figure 4) and lock it into position by screwing the threaded
dowels [I] tight (Figure 5). Then turn the column in the required direction
and lock it into place by tightening the bolts [F]. To cover a wider area on the
horizontal plane, you can mount two columns side by side at about 60°
from each other. Do not use a smaller angle as interference might occur in
the areas where radiation patterns overlap. Connect the cable coming out
of the column (detail [A], Figure 1) to the distribution line of the amplifying
system. While making the connection, make sure that the acoustic phasing
between the various different loudspeakers is observed.
Use a flat-bladed screwdriver to turn the rotary switch (detail [D], Figure 1)
in order to select the correct distribution line voltage value and the desired
output power level, consulting the table provided next to the switch.
For environments in which sound broadcasting is particularly difficult (with
a high level of reverberation) or in case of special tone-colour requirements,
it is possible to include the "SPEECH ENHANCER" filter by positioning its
switch [C] to "ON" (Figure 1).
