2.2 How the Shimano Steps system works

Features
• Compact, lightweight design
• Silent, smooth ride
• System offering excellent performance in terms
of changing gears (for an electronic shift system).
This system uses accurate sensors that let you
change gear by offering the most appropriate level
of electric assistance, as this is carefully adjusted
via digital controls.
• Fully automatic gear changes (for a 5 or 8 Di2
electronic shift system).
The sensors detect the conditions in which your
bike is being used. If you are cycling uphill, into
a headwind, or on a flat surface with no wind;
the automatic gear shift system uses electronic
controls to make your ride more enjoyable.
• Start mode (for an electronic shift system).

This function lets you switch to a defined lower
gear when you stop the bike, at traffic lights for
example, so that you can start off in a low gear. If
you switch to a lower gear at the set gear when
the bike stops, the system will not automatically
switch to the next gear up.
• Light off road, sports, offers powerful assistance.
Can only be used when set up by the bike
manufacturer.
• Walk assist function (walk assist mode)
* The walk assist function may not be usable in
some regions.
* Some of the functions listed above can only
be used once the firmware has been updated. If
applicable, talk to the shop you bought your bike
from and update the firmware.
