4. LUBRICATE BACK OF GASKET: Lubri-
cate back of gasket using corn oil, soybean oil,
glycerin, silicone oil or silicone release agent.
DO NOT use Victaulic lubricant, hydrocarbon
based oils, greases or soap based solutions as
these may react with pipe material.
5. APPLY HOUSING: Place housing over gas-
ket being sure the gasket remains centered
over the marked pipe ends and the housing
tongue and recess are properly mated. Insert
bolts and apply nuts finger tight. ALWAYS
TAKE CARE TO AVOID DAMAGE TO
THE COUPLING TEETH . ALWAYS WEAR
GLOVES WHEN HANDLING VICTAULIC
HDPE PRODUCTS.
12
All sizes of HDPE Style 997 cou-
plings have a tongue and recess
feature and must be properly
mated, tongue to recess.
Failure to do so could result in
serious personal injury, prop-
erty damage, joint leakage or
joint separation.
6. TIGHTEN NUTS: Tighten the nuts uni-
formly, alternating sides until housing bolt pads
meet firmly metal-to-metal. Alternate tight-
ening for uniformity is essential to prevent gas-
ket pinching.
Victaulic HDPE couplings must have nuts tightened
evenly and securely to bring all bolt pads firmly to-
gether metal-to-metal.
Failure to do so could result in personal injury, prop-
erty damage, improper installation, joint leakage or
joint failure.
