TL-1 Tire Lever Set
Tire levers are used to remove and install a
tire and tube from the wheel of a bicycle. TL-1
Tire Levers are tough enough for the shop and
small and light enough for taking on rides for
emergency repairs.
Tire and Tube Removal:
1. Deflate tire completely.
2. Insert one lever under bead of tire and hook
onto spoke.
3. Insert second lever 4" (8cm) from first and
hook onto spoke.
4. Insert third lever 4" (8cm) from second and
slide along rim until bead of tire is removed
from rim.
5. Remove opposite side bead of tire by hand
and pull tire and tube from rim.
Tire and Tube Installation:
1. Inflate tube with just enough air to give it
shape and install in tire.
2. Position tire so the valve of the inner tube
fits into the valve hole of the rim and points
straight to the center hub. A valve that is not
pointing straight at the center hub can eas-
ily be cut by the rim and cause a flat tire.
3. Work bead of one side of tire completely
onto rim with hands; then work bead of sec-
ond side of tire onto rim. For extremely tight
fitting tires, a tire lever can be used to pry
the tire onto the rim. Insert tire lever under
bead and pry bead onto rim, using caution
to avoid pinching inner tube.
4. Inflate tire to low pressure and inspect to make
sure both sides of the tire bead are fully en-
gaged on rim. If tire is properly seated, inflate
to pressure recommended on tire.
AWS-10 Hex Wrench Set
1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, and 6mm sizes are used to
install and adjust brakes, derailleurs, saddles,
seat posts, handlebars, stems, water bottle
cages, etc.
SK-1 Home Mechanic Starter Set
HCW-16 15mm Pedal Wrench/Chain Whip
A pedal wrench is necessary for removing and
installing pedals for replacement, service, or
packing a bike for shipment. The HCW-16 is thin
enough to fit the wrench flats of any pedal and
has a long, comfortable handle for leverage.
Removing Pedals:
1. Shift chain to largest chainring. This
helps protect hands and arms from sharp
chainring teeth.
2. Place HCW-16 on right pedal. Holding left
crank for leverage, turn HCW-16 counter-
clockwise until pedal is removed.
3. Place HCW-16 on left pedal. Holding right
crank for leverage, turn HCW-16 clockwise
until pedal is removed.
Installing Pedals:
1. Apply grease to threads of both pedals.
2. Thread right pedal (marked "R") clockwise into
right crank by hand. Tighten with HCW-16.
3. Thread left pedal (marked "L ") counterclockwise
into left crank by hand. Tighten with HCW-16.
The HCW-16 is also used when removing cas-
sette cogs from the rear wheel. It firmly holds
the cassette cogs so a cassette lockring tool
can be used to remove the cassette lockring.
SD-2 #2 Phillips Screwdriver
SD-3 3mm Flat Blade Screwdriver
The shop quality SD-2 and SD-3 Screwdrivers
are used for adjusting derailleurs, brakes, and
a variety of accessories.
FR-5 Cassette Lockring Tool
A cassette lockring tool is used to remove and
install the cassette lockring and cogs on a rear
wheel. The FR-5 fits Shimano
®
Race
, and other 12-tooth cassette lockrings.
®
Lockring Removal: Fit cassette lockring
tool into splines of lockring and install quick
release skewer to prevent tool from slipping.
Hold cassette sprockets with HCW-16 chain
whip and turn cassette lockring tool counter-
clockwise with adjustable wrench until lockring
is removed.
Lockring Installation: Fit cassette lockring
tool into splines of lockring and turn clockwise
with wrench until tight.
VP-1 Vulcanizing Patch Kit
Glass, thorns, nails, and other debris can
puncture a wheel's inner tube, which holds
air inside the tire. The VP-1 Patch Kit is used to
patch small holes so the punctured tube can
be reused.
Patching Inner Tubes:
1. Remove tire and tube from wheel using TL-1
Tire Levers.
2. Re-inflate inner tube until double in size.
3. Inspect inner tube for leaks.
4. Lightly buff area around hole with sandpa-
per and wipe away dust. Deflate tube.
5. Apply a thin coat of vulcanizing fluid and
spread evenly around area of hole. Allow
fluid to dry.
6. Peel protective backing from patch (leave
clear film on patch), center patch to hole,
and press firmly onto tube.
7. Place tube inside tire, install tire on wheel,
and pump to pressure recommended on tire.
