Q: What is the difference between normal and low-level format?
A: A normal format, Super floppy format or PC/AT HDD format, only
initializes the disk and erase all files on the disk. A low-level format
scans the entire surface of the MO disk, which can increase drive
performance with some older MO disks.
Q: When is a low-level format recommended ?
A: A low-level format is recommended when older media are very slow to
access files.
Q: How can I do a low-level format for an MO disk ?
A: From [Option] menu of the MO Formatter, select [Low-level Format].
Then follow the instructions on the screen. Low-level format itself does
not allow you to access the MO disk. After low-level format, you have
to format the MO disk with either Super floppy type or PC/AT HDD
type. Please be patient as low-level format takes about 10 - 15 minutes.
Q: The MO Formatter indicates the disk capacity, but File Manager
indicates different capacity for the same MO disk. Why?
A: Because the MO disk formatter indicates unformatted capacity, as
opposed to the File Manager, which indicates formatted capacity.
Q: I tried to format my old MO disk several times. But it fails to format.
What can I do?
A: The low-level format of your MO disk may have been destroyed. Please
re-format your MO disk with low-level format first, then try Super
floppy format (or PC/AT HDD format). Please be patient that low-level
format takes about 10 - 15 minutes.
