on the power unit. The tool speed depends on how far
you press the switch.
f Obtain maximum speed before applying pressure.
f Always hold saw firmly with both hands while cutting
as shown in Fig. C. Whenever possible, the saw shoe
must be held firmly against the material being cut.
This will prevent the saw from jumping or vibrating and
will minimize blade breakage.
f To switch the tool off, release the variable speed switch.
f Always use the appropriate type of saw blade for the
workpiece material and type of cut.
f If necessary, drill a hole in the workpiece near the
starting point of the cut so the blade will fit before
starting the cut.
Note: This attachment only operates in the forward
direction, the forward/reverse slider of the Power Unit
should not be able to be switched to reverse.
Flush Cutting (Fig. D)
f The compact design of the recipro cating saw motor
housing and pivoting shoe permit close cutting to
floors, corners and other difficult areas.
f Turn the saw upside down so you are as close to the
work surface as possible.
f Always hold saw firmly with both hands while cutting
as shown in Fig. D.
Wood Cutting (Fig. E)
f Before cutting any type of wood, be sure the work
piece is firmly anchored or clamped to prevent slipping.
f Lightly place blade and and firmly press shoe against
work to be cut.
f Switch on saw motor before applying pressure.
f Always hold saw firmly with both hands while cutting.
Whenever possible, the shoe must be held firmly against
the material being cut. This will prevent the saw from
jumping or vibrating and minimize blade breakage.
Metal Cutting (Fig. F)
f Use a finer blade for ferrous metals and a coarse
blade for non-ferrous materials.
f In thin gauge sheet metals it is best to clamp wood
to the underside of the sheet. This will ensure a clean
cut without excess vibration or tearing of metal.
f Avoid forcing cutting blade as this reduces blade life
and causes costly blade breakage.
Note: You should spread a thin film of oil or other coolant
along the line ahead of the saw cut for easier operation
and longer blade life. For cutting aluminum, kerosene is
preferred.
Pocket Cutting - Wood Only (Fig. G)
f Measure the surface area to be cut and mark clearly
with a pencil, chalk, or scriber.
f Insert blade in blade clamp and tighten blade clamp
securely.
f Place blade at desired cutting point and tip the saw
backward until the back edge of the shoe is resting on
the work surface.
f Switch motor on, permitting blade to attain maximum
speed.
f Grip handle steadily and begin a slow, deliberate
upward swing with the handle of the saw, plunging the
blade into the wood.
f The blade will begin to feed into material. Always
be sure blade is completely through material before
continuing with pocket cut.
Note: In areas where blade visibility is limited, use the
edge of the shoe as a guide.
PROJECT TIPS
f Cut only with sharp blades; they cut cleaner, faster
and put less strain on the motor while cutting.
f When cutting, always ensure that the shoe is resting
against the workpiece. This will improve operator
control and minimize vibration.
f For longer blade life, use bi-metal blades. These
utilize a carbon steel back welded to high speed steel
teeth making the blade more flexible and less prone to
breaking.
MAINTENANCE
Use only a dry cloth to clean the tool. Never let any liquid
get inside the tool; never immerse any part of the tool into
a liquid.
Your BLACK+DECKER tool has been designed to operate
over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance.
Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper
tool care and regular cleaning. Your charger does not
require any maintenance apart from regular cleaning.
Warning! Before performing any maintenance on the
tool, remove the battery from the tool. Unplug the charger
before cleaning it.
f Regularly clean the ventilation slots in your tool and
charger using a soft brush or dry cloth.
f Regularly clean the motor housing using a damp
cloth. Do not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.
f Regularly open the chuck and tap it to remove any
dust from the interior.
¡Important! To ensure product SAFETY and
RELIABILITY, repairs, maintenance and adjustment
(other than those listed in this manual) should be performed
by authorized service centers or other qualified organizations,
always using identical replacement parts. Unit contains no
user service able parts inside.
