3 Applications
The active speaker system PAK-8 with an rms power of
100 W is ideally suited for PA and DJ applications like
live performances of small bands, dancing events, etc.
The compact and handy active speaker system is
equipped with a 20 cm bass-midrange speaker and a
dynamic horn tweeter. It has a limiter circuit for level
limitation, a 3-way equalizer with bypass switch, a sub-
sonic filter and a sub-boost function (both can be
switched on/off). It is possible to connect either a
microphone or a unit with line output level (e. g. CD
player) to the balanced input. A feed-through output
allows connection of another active speaker system.
4 Setting-up and Connection
1) The speaker system can freely be placed on the
floor: either put it on edge on the three standing feet
or in a flat way on the four standing feet so that the
sound will be radiated diagonally upwards.
Via the stand sleeve on the lower side of the unit
it is possible also to place the speaker system on a
PA cabinet stand (e. g. a stand of the PAST series
from the MONACOR product range).
2) As a signal source it is possible to connect a micro-
phone or an audio unit with line output level (e. g. mix -
er, CD player, MD or cassette recorder, etc.). Con-
nect the signal source via an XLR plug or a 6.3 mm
plug to the balanced input jack BAL INPUT (4).
Note: When connecting a stereo unit, use a stereo
mono adapter, e. g. the cable MCA-300 (2 × phono
plug to 1 × 6.3 mm mono plug) from MONACOR.
Otherwise certain signal parts will be extin-
guished.
3) The fed-through input signal is available at the ba l -
anc ed XLR output LINK (2). To this output the input
of another active speaker system can be con-
nected.
4) Finally connect the supplied mains cable to the
mains jack (6) and to a mains socket (230 V~/50 Hz).
5 Operation
Caution! Never adjust a very high volume. Perma-
nent high volumes may damage your hearing! The
human ear gets accustomed to high volumes which
do not seem to be that high any more after some time.
Therefore, do not further increase a high volume
which has once been adjusted after getting used to it.
1) With the button INPUT SELECT (3) adapt the input
sensitivity to the connected signal source: disen-
gage the button in case of connected audio unit
with line level; with connected microphone the but-
ton must be pressed.
2) Switch on the connected signal source.
3) Switch on the active speaker system with the mains
switch POWER (12). After switching-on, the upper

LED ON/PROT. (1) shows red for some seconds
(protective circuit activated, unit muted) and then
changes to green to indicate the normal operating
condition.
4) Adjust the volume with the control VOLUME (8).
From a certain volume, the lower LED NORMAL (1)
lights up to the rhythm of the music.
If the level is too high, the central LED LIMTER
(1) lights up to show that the integrated limiter circuit
is active. The limiter circuit serves to limit the signal
level: If the level exceeds a defined maximum value,
it is adjusted downward to this value by the limiter
circuit. If the LIMITER LED should light permanently,
turn back the volume control correspondingly.
5) To switch on the equalizer (9), press the button EQ
(10); with the equalizer switched on, the LED next to
the button lights up. By disengaging the button, the
equalizer can be bridged (switched off), if desired.
With the three equalizer controls adjust the
desir ed sound: It is possible to control the bass
range (LOW), the midrange (MID), and the high
range (HI) up to ±12 dB or ±15 dB. With the controls
in mid-position there is no influence on the sound.
6) By pressing the button SUB-BOOST (5) it is possi-
ble to boost the lower bass range, if required. With
the sub-boost function switched on, the LED next to
the button lights up.
7) Subsonic sound or other low-frequency interference
can be suppressed by connecting the subsonic fil-
ter: Press the button SUBSONIC (13). With the filter
switched on, the LED next to the button lights up.
8) When setting up several speaker systems, the
sound waves of the systems may show a different
phase. This may cause undesired attenuation of cer-
tain frequencies. To balance this, the PAK-8 has a
phase reversal switch, the button PHASE (11), by
which the phase of the audio signal can be turned by
180°. Test both positions of the button – pressed
(LED next to it lights up) or disengaged – and choose
that position which offers the best reproduction.
9) After operation of the unit, switch it off with the
switch POWER (12).
