Changing Setting of Mowing
Head
• Open the mowing head.
• Engage the special wrench and
checking reading on scale.
• Press wrench down firmly and turn it
counterclockwise by one graduation in
direction of "shorter line" – allow it to
come up again and check the setting on
the scale.
• Check the setting on the scale.
• Remove the special wrench.
• Close the mowing head – check that
cover is firmly seated.
• Start your brushcutter.
• Repeat the following procedure several
times: Open the throttle wide and return
to idle.
• Switch off the engine.
• Check lengths of lines – and
change setting of mowing head –
until lines are the right length.
How Does Automatic Line Feed
Work?
First stage of automatic line feed: Nylon
line becomes shorter due to normal wear
during cutting, and engine speed increases
as a result. A short length of line is
advanced when the head's speed exceeds
a predetermined limit.
Second stage of automatic line feed: The
head's speed drops when the engine is
idling. Nylon line is advanced to the correct
length when the head's speed drops below
a predetermined limit.
Working Technique
Cut at full throttle until you notice a definite
increase in engine speed: Cutting
performance deteriorates. Keep the engine
at full throttle and lift the head out of the cut.
Wait for first stage of line feed (you will hear
a click). Allow engine to return to idle
speed. Wait for second stage of line feed
(another click) and then continue mowing
at full throttle.
Replacing Nylon Line
Use only original STIHL mowing line with
a round cross section and a diameter of
2.4 mm – preferably the "quiet" version.
• Open the mowing head.
L
• Pull spool upward to remove.
• Remove remaining line from the spool.
• Cut max. 7.5 m nylon line from the reel –
fold it in half and pinch the loop.
• Hold the spool so that the side marked L
is facing up.
L
• Hook the loop to the spool and wind the
line tightly around the spool – one line in
each groove.
L
• Attach the ends of the lines to the slots.
L
• Thread the ends of the lines through the
sleeves.
• Refit the spool and hold it steady.
• Pull the ends of the lines one at a time
until they slip out of the slots.
• Engage spool in position – turn it back
and forth – the action of pulling the ends
of the lines may have engaged the spool
already
• Trim ends of lines to 5 cm.
• Refit the cover down and check that it is
firmly seated.
Troubleshooting
Automatic line feed does not operate:
• One stage of line feed has not taken
place: Return to idle speed – open
throttle wide until engine speed remains
constant. Return to idle speed, then
continue mowing.
• No nylon line in spool: Refill with fresh
line.
• Line is too loose on spool: Rewind the
line.
• Line is stuck in spool: Release the line
and rewind line on spool.
• Lines are shorter than 5 cm: Lift spool
and rotate it until lines are longer than
5 cm – engage spool in position.
• Setting of automatic line feed
mechanism is wrong: See "Changing
Setting of Mowing Head"
Lines are constantly trimmed to length
by blade:
