How to use the Optical Tachometers
1. Attach a strip of reflective tape to shaft (5x25mm normal).
2. Select function required on slide switch.
3. Press and hold RED 'ON' button.
4. Aim light beam onto reflective marker on shaft.
5. Ensure GREEN LED on target light is on steadily.
Note: This LED flashes at a rate directly related to the speed of the pulses being received from the
refective marker, therefore at low speeds this will be a slow rate, at higher speeds the LED will appear
to glow continuously, if the light flickers or goes out, then the light beam is not being held steadily on
the target.
6. Auto / fixed range selection - Select autorange by MOMENTARILY pressing YELLOW button. This
toggles the auto/fixed range on/off - The RED button must be held on continuously.

in display, automatic switch-off.
8. Memory Recall - Press recall Yellow button to re-display last reading, data held for 1 minute in
memory.
9. TO RESET ANY READING SIMPLY PRESS THE RED BUTTON
10. High speed rpm. This can be measured by selecting metres/min position on slide switch, this
divides input by 10 thus allowing display of rpm to ±10 rpm.
WARNING: Only alkaline batteries must be used in these instruments under no circumstances must
dry batteries or calculator batteries be used as these cannot supply the power required and can damage
the instrument due to leakage.
