Intended use

These installation instructions are intended for door fabricators and building operators. They must
be delivered to the end user.
In accordance with the manufacturer's liability for its products as defi ned in the German
"Product Liability Act" (§4 of the Product Liability Act), the following information about door
closers for swing doors must be observed.
Non-compliance with this information releases the manufacturer from its liability.
Within the meaning of this defi nition, door closers serve to close swing doors again after they have
been opened manually. The closing action is hydraulically damped and can be adjusted. The required
closing force depending on door leaf width and weight is determined by the standard EN 1154.
Duty to inform and to instruct
To ensure correct use, functioning, service and maintenance of swing door closers, it is necessary to
request and observe the appropriate product information documents, e.g. catalogues, brochures,
tender texts, installation and operating instructions and installation drawings, and to pass them
on to fabricators and building operators. This applies particularly to operating and maintenance
instructions, and to acceptance tests prescribed by the law.
Function preconditions
The doors can only function correctly if they are installed in a perpendicular position and in such a
way that they are able to move smoothly, and with the door closer mounted properly. It is therefore
necessary that both installation and adjustment of the various functions should be carried out by
specialist companies only, and these companies must observe the manufacturer's specifi cations for
each product involved as well as the structural conditions.
When using the door closer on fi re and smoke protection doors, the installation instructions of the
manufacturer and those set out in EN 1154 must be observed!
The door closer has been designed for use in dry rooms only!
Do not fi t the door closer in outdoor areas (unprotected outdoor installation) or in aggressive
corrosive environments.
Misuse
Non-compliance with the intended use of swing door closers exists particularly when:
 
Door closers are used for purposes other than the closing of doors
 
The size of the door closer chosen does not correspond to the manufacturer's recommendations
 
The installation and/or adjustment was/were carried out incorrectly or inexpertly
 
The locking operation is impeded by obstacles in the closing area, when the door leaf drags on
the floor or is jammed in the frame, and when the locking operation is impeded by stuck gaskets,
wooden wedges, etc.
 
Door hinges interfere with the locking operation because they are not aligned correctly or do
not run smoothly
 
Foreseeable local conditions, such as wind or temperatures (over 40° C or under -15° C), exceed
or fall below the manufacturer's specifications
 
Non-approved door closers are used in fire and smoke protection doors
Liability
The respective entire hardware set (door closer, slide rail and accessories) may only consist of
Gretsch-Unitas Group hardware components. No liability is accepted if the door closer is incorrectly
installed or maintained and/or if non-original accessory components and/or non-factory-approved
accessory components are used.
