Repairs / maintenance

Pre-tensioned spring inside the door closer!
WARNING
Risk of serious injury when opening the door closer!
Never attempt to open the door closer or to dismantle it!
Maintenance work on the door closer must be carried out by a specialist authorised by Gretsch-
Unitas GmbH Baubeschläge. If maintenance is neglected, improper functioning (closing force and
speed) may not be recognised early enough and therefore cause hazards.
Depending on requirements, door closers must be regularly checked for tight attachment and for
wear. Fixing screws must be tightened up and defective parts exchanged.
Moreover, the following maintenance work has to be carried out at least once a year depending on
the type and use of the swing door:
 
All moving parts must be greased (slide arm)
 
The door closer's adjustments must be checked:
 Closing speed
 Final speed / Latching speed
 Backcheck (if adjustable)
 
The smooth running of the door must be checked
 
In the case of door closers with special functions (hold-open devices, hold-open systems), it is
necessary that legal controls, inspections, and maintenance procedures be duly carried out. We
recommend that the test book for hold-open systems (Art. No.: K-18097-00-0-0) be used.
 
Door closers and/or defective components must be replaced immediately if correct function can
no longer be guaranteed.
 
Only lubricants and cleaning detergents not containing corrosive and/or destructive ingredients
may be used for maintenance
3. Disposal
The regulations of the particular country must be observed when products are disposed of.
GU's door closers contain a small amount of hydraulic oil which is not subject to the Ordinance on
Hazardous Substances.
