Motor
Your Black & Decker tool is powered by a Black & Decker-built motor. Be sure your power supply agrees with
nameplate marking. 120 Volts AC only means your saw will operate on standard 60 Hz household power. Do
not operate AC tools on DC. A rating of 120 volts AC/DC means that your tool will operate on standard 60
Hz AC or DC power. This information is printed on the nameplate. Lower voltage will cause loss of power and
can result in over-heating. All Black & Decker tools are factory-tested; if this tool does not operate, check the
power supply.

Always unplug saw from power supply before any of the following operations.
•ATTACHING AND REMOVING BLADES

is toward blade. Use scrap wood or spindle lock (Model Nos. CS300, CS500) to prevent spindle rotation.
Tighten blade securely as shown (Fig. 5A or Fig. 5B). Never engage spindle lock while blade is turning.

•CUTTING DEPTH ADJUSTMENT
Adjust (Fig. 6) using depth adjustment knob. See (Fig. 7) for proper setting. Tighten knob securely.
•BEVEL ANGLE ADJUSTMENT
Adjust (Fig. 8) using bevel adjustment knob. Tighten knob securely.
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read, understand and follow all important safe-
ty warnings and instructions prior to using tool
•GENERAL CUTS
• IMPORTANT: Read safety warnings and instructions. GUARD AGAINST KICKBACK.
• With tool unplugged, follow all assembly, adjustment and set up instructions. Make sure lower guard operates.
Select the proper blade for the material to be cut.
•USE OF EXTENSION CORDS.
User must make sure the extension cord is in good condition before using.
If intended to be used outdoors, the cord must be marked with the suffix W-A following the cord type
designation, for example – SJTW-A, which indicates it is acceptable for outdoor use.
Always use the proper size extension cords with the tool – that is, proper wire size for various lengths of cord
and heavy enough to carry the current the tool will draw. Use of an undersized cord will cause a drop in line

voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating. For proper size cords see chart under "General Safety

Warnings and Instructions for All Tools."
• Measure and mark work for cutting.
• Support and secure work properly (See Safety Warnings and Instructions).
• Use appropriate and required safety equipment (See Safety Instructions).
• Secure and maintain work area (See Safety Instructions).
• Plug in saw. Make sure switch turns saw on and off.
• When operating the saw, keep the cord away from the cutting area and position it so that it will not be
caught in the workpiece during the cutting operation.
WARNING:
It is important to support the work properly and to hold the saw firmly to prevent loss of
control which could cause personal injury. Fig. 3 illustrates typical hand support of the saw.
• Place the front of the saw shoe flat on the material to be cut.
• Align the blade with the line of cut to be made making sure blade clears material.
5a
• Pull trigger switch, allow blade to attain full speed. Never lock the trigger on by any means.
• Move the saw forward across the material, keeping the saw shoe flat until the cut is completed.
• Release trigger, allow blade to stop before removing saw.
• When cutting is complete, unplug and safely store the saw.
•POCKET CUTTING (SEE FIG. 10)
Pocket cutting is used to cut a hole in a piece of material without cutting from the side.
• Tilt saw forward and rest front of the shoe on material to be cut. Align so that cut will begin at the back of the
drawn rectangle.
• Using the retracting lever, retract blade guard to an upward position, with the blade just clearing the
material, start motor and gradually lower the saw into the material.
WARNING:
As blade starts cutting the material, release the retracting lever immediately.
• Never tie the blade guard in a raised position.
• When the shoe rests flat on the material being cut, complete the cut in forward direction.
• Allow the blade to come to a complete stop before lifting saw from material.
• When starting each new cut, repeat the above steps.
•DUST COLLECTION OR EXTRACTION (MODEL NO. CS500)
For dust collection, rotate dust ejection nozzle to a horizontal position. Position dust bag so it will not interfere
with surrounding objects or workpiece during cutting. If this cannot be done, do not use the dustbag. Empty
bag frequently.
For dust extraction, rotate dust ejection nozzle to point away from the saw. Slip a standard vacuum cleaner
tube over the nozzle. Insure the vacuum cleaner can be placed such that it will not tip over or interfere with the
motion of the saw while cutting. If this cannot be done, do not use the vacuum cleaner. Turn on vacuum cleaner
before beginning to cut. Empty vacuum cleaner as required.
WARNING: Do not use abrasive or metal cutting blades when collecting or extracting saw
dust. Ignition of saw dust and fire could result.
Use only mild soap and damp cloth to clean the tool. Never let any liquid get inside the tool; never immerse
any part of the tool into a liquid.
IMPORTANT: To assure product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs, maintenance and adjustment should be
performed by authorized service centers or other qualified service organizations, always using identical
replacement parts.
