MAINTENANCE
Important Notes: Branch circuit field wiring must be disconnected
prior to initial luminaire installation or maintenance. Before
performing any maintenance work with the luminaire enclosure
open ,the battery pack must be disconnected from the converter/
inverter assembly by separating the latching connectors(connect-
ing two white wires and two black and red wires of battery) . Also
disconnect battery/converter connector (Red-Red wires. See Fig. 4,
5 and 6 for connection location.
1.
Disconnect the battery/convertor connector during extended
periods of power loss of more than 1 week.
2.
If luminaire is out of service for more than 1 year, perform
annual test procedure & replace battery packs as needed.
3.
Perform visual, electrical and mechanical inspections on a
regular basis. The environment and frequency of use should
determine this. However, it is recommended that checks
be made at least once a year. We recommend an Electrical
Preventive Maintenance Program as described in the
National Fire Protection Association Bulletin NFPA No. 70B:
Recommended Practice for Electrical Equipment Maintenance
(www.nfpa.org)
4.
The lens should be cleaned periodically to ensure continued
lighting performance. To clean, wipe the lens with a clean,
damp cloth. If this is not enough, use a mild soap or a liquid
cleaner. Do not use an abrasive, strong alkaline or acid cleaner.
Damage may result.
5.
Visually inspect charging indicator light monthly. It should
be illuminated (when AC power ON). If charging indicator is
flashing contact tech support.
6.
Test the emergency operation of the fixture at 30-day intervals
for a minimum of 30sec.The LED load should operate at
reduced illumination in case of power failure.
7.
Conduct a 90min discharge test once a year. The LED load
should operate at reduced illumination for at least 90minutes
8.
Visually check for undue heating evidenced by discoloration
of wires or other components, damaged parts or leakage
evidenced by water or corrosion in the interior. Replace all
worn, damaged or malfunctioning components, and clean
gasket seals before putting the luminaire back into service.
9.
Electrically check to make sure that all connections are clean
and tight.
10.
Mechanically check that all parts are properly assembled.
11.
Check and re-torque all mounting hardware.
12.
To prevent heat build-up, remove dust from the LED housing
using a soft brush or air pressure.

PUSH-TO-TEST SWITCH (factory installed test
switch / customer provided remote test switch)
Push to Test switch supplied within CHAMP Emergency LED luminaire
must be used to periodically test the emergency operation feature (see
wiring diagram). If required, customer can remote mount their own test
switch with suitable electrical ratings. Test switch must be labeled to
indicate its functions. Contact Crouse-Hinds for further queries.
For remote mounting of Push to test switch; remove violet and brown
wires of internal push to test switch (supplied within fixture – refer fig
5, 6) and connect customer supplied test switch on same connectors.
Ref Fig. "Remote mounting test switch & status indicator" for wiring
of remote push to test switch.
Important instructions for remote mounting of push to test switch
(customer supplied):
a. Switch shall be installed using acceptable wiring methods.
b. Switch shall be connected to the emergency luminaire circuit such
that when depressed it provides a transfer function and disconnects
and isolates the normal input from the emergency input.
c. Switch shall be identified as to its function (i.e. – marked
"Emergency Luminaire Test Switch")
d. Switch shall have electrical ratings suitable for the emergency
luminaires.
e. Switch shall be manually operated type.
f. Switch shall be of momentary-contact type
STATUS INDICATOR LIGHT
The status indicator light located on LED board (Red LED) will be
"ON" when the battery is charging. If the status LED is flashing,
replace emergency driver unit.. If required customer can remote
mount their own status indicator light with suitable electrical
ratings. Contact Crouse-Hinds for further queries.
For remote mounting of Status Indicator light refer to figure below
"Remote mounting Test switch & Status indicator".
EMERGENCY DRIVER UNIT INFORMATION
Remote mounting test switch and status indicator
CHAMP Emergency LED luminaires are supplied with an emergency
driver unit. Disconnect the battery/converter connector (Red-Red
wires) prior to performing maintenance (Refer Fig 5). This will
disconnect the charged battery from the LEDs. The emergency driver
unit must be checked periodically to ensure that it is working properly.

WIRING (Refer Fig 5 and Fig 6 for wiring diagrams):
1.
Pull field wiring into cover module ( (L and/or L1 ,N,G supply
wires).
2.
Close all unused conduit entries with conduit plugs provided.
To prevent galling and to ensure Water tightness, lubricate
conduit plugs with Eaton's Crouse-Hinds series HTL lubricant
before installing, and secure wrench-tight with at least five (5)
full threads engaged (42-52 ft.-lb. for 3/4" plugs, and 58-68
ft.-lb. for 1" plugs).
3.
Connect supply wires to luminaire wire leads' terminal
connector secured on the mounting carrier as per the
attached wiring diagrams. All wiring must be secured. All the
components in the luminaire are pre-wired so only line, neutral
and ground need to be connected in the fixture to the lead
wires as per wiring diagrams (see Fig 5 and 6). Terminate
the equipment grounding conductor first (Green), the neutral
(White) next, and, the line voltage (Black) last. Tighten all
electrical connections.
4.
Connect converter connector (Red -Red wires) as shown
in wiring diagram (refer Fig 5 and 6). Also, plug battery into
the Bodine EM driver (connect White-White wires). Battery/
