Cleaning and Sterilization
Recommendations*
WARNING:
Clean and sterilize battery packs
before first and every use.
CAUTIONS:
• DO NOT immerse battery packs in liquid.
• DO NOT use disinfectants with pH levels higher than 10.5.
See the disinfectant's Material Safety Data Sheet to verify
the pH range. Failure to comply may cause the housing
material to crack.
• DO NOT sterilize a battery pack if damage is apparent
(cracks or other damage).
• DO NOT leave battery packs in a hot sterilizer for more
than the prescribed time as this will shorten battery pack
life.
• After sterilization, ALWAYS allow batteries and battery
packs to cool for at least one hour before recharging.
Failure to comply may result in damage and a shortened
battery life.
• Dry battery packs before placing them in the charger to
avoid damage to the battery packs and charger.
1. Remove the battery pack from the handpiece.
2. Inspect the battery pack housing for cracks or damage.

3. Using a sponge, wipe the battery pack clean with an
enzymatic, hospital grade disinfectant having a pH range
of 6.5 to 10.5.
4. Rinse the battery pack thoroughly under running water.
5. Wipe the battery pack dry with a lint-free towel.
6. To obtain optimal performance and help prevent damage,
perform one of the following sterilization procedures:
"Flash" Autoclave:
• Gravity displacement sterilizer
• 270-272 °F (132-134 °C)
• Unwrapped in an instrument
tray. Ensure nothing touches
the terminals.
• 3-minute exposure time; no
dry time.
Hi Vac:
• Pre-vacuumed sterilizer
• 270-272 °F (132-134 °C)
• Wrapped or unwrapped
• 4-minute exposure time
*Sterilization validation based on the Association for the Advancement
of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) protocol.
NOTE:
Battery packs sterilized using the ETO method will
run approximately 20% less time than battery packs sterilized
by the "Flash" method.
