Problem
Pole saw does not
cut properly.
Bar and chain
running hot and
smoking.
Cause
1. Insufficient chain tension. 1. Readjust the chain tension, following

4. Worn chain.
5. Dry or excessively
stretched chain.
6. Chain not in bar groove.
1. Check chain tension for
over-tightened condition.
2. Chain oil tank is empty.

groove.
Remedy
the section: "Adjusting the Chain
Tension".
2. Sharpen the chain cutters, following
the section: "How to Sharpen the
Cutters".
3. Reinstall the saw chain, following
the section: "Replacing the Bar and
Chain".
4. Replace the chain, following the
section: "Replacing the Bar and
Chain".
5. Check the oil level. Refill the oil tank if
necessary.
6. Reinstall the saw chain, following
the section: "Replacing the Bar and
Chain".
1. Re-tension the saw chain; see the
section: "Adjusting the Chain
Tension".
2. Filling bar and chain lubricant.
3. Clear the debris in the groove.
