Test the device at a known power source

within the rated voltage range of the device,
both before and after use to ensure it functions
correctly.
If you use this function and the V~ indicator

does not illuminate, there can still a voltage be
applied. The tester indicates an active voltage
with electric fields of sufficient strength gener-
ated by the power supply (mains supply). If
the field strength too low, the device possibly
does not indicate that a voltage is applied. If
the device does not detect an applied voltage,
this might be caused by several factors
including, but not limited to:
• Shielded wires/cords
• Thickness and type of insulation
• Distance from the power supply
• Fully insulated consumers preventing effec-
tive ground connection.
• Receptacles in built-in sockets / differences
in socket design
• Condition of the device and the battery
