16-651
Read the complete manual before attempting installation and activating the system.
1. DESCRIPTION
The interface is an electronic control unit for access control and door communication and is part of the range Access Control Design. This unit connects the control functions in the external unit to the video splitter or switcher
to which the telephone exchange is connected.
The 16-651 offers the following possibilities (depending on the chosen configuration):
- visual communication via camera and monitor
- programming support via speech for the audio part
- video image is sent to the correct internal unit
- 1 to 6 bell push buttons, with each a max. of 3 proper call numbers on the telephone exchange or rerouting to an external number
- 'ring-and-come-in' function
- day and night setting with different call number
- 2 relay outputs for 2 electric locks to be operated seperately
- door access via code number on a keyboard
- door access via coded, contactfree electronic card
- door access via key contact.
2. INSTALLATION
2.1. Check whether you have the following components at your disposal:
- the interface 16-651
- cable with twisted pairs (min. 4 x 2)
- video splitter or switcher
- video internal unit (16-661) or telephone
- telephone exchange 16-678
- external unit or frame/column with the chosen modules
- flat cable, supplied together with the frame/column. The length of the cable depends on the number of modules. The number of connectors on the flat cable is identical to the number of modules plus one (= for the lighting module).
2.2. Choice of cabling
Niko recommends the following cables:
- interior cable:
- UTP cat. 5E (max. 100m)
- exterior cable / underground cable:
- UTP cat. 5E OUTDOOR
- ATCUG (armoured telephone cable): 4 x 2 x 0.8mm (This cable is less practical in use, but does guarantee covering
longer distances thanks to the larger wire section). In order to simplify installation, a transition piece from UTP to screw
connection is available (16-679-01).

2.3. Wiring diagram

Topology:
- Connect every external unit (RJ45 connector to the intelligent doorbell or screw connector in case of surface mounting external unit) to the interface 16-651.
- Connect the 16-651 to the video splitter (in case of one external unit) or video switcher (in case of several external units), which you preferably place in the immediate vicinity of the telephone exchange, e.g. via UTP patch
cables cat. 5E.
- Connect every internal unit to the video splitter or switcher e.g. via UTP cable cat. 5E.
In the wiring diagram below, you find an example of an installation for max. 4 external units and 8 internal units 4 of which can function as a telephone.
