WARNING:
DO NOT DISASSEMBLE STRUT TENSIONER! Always allow engine to cool down prior to performing any repair work.
For Safety, always disconnect negative battery terminal and wear appropriate safety equipment before performing any work
under the hood. When disconnecting negative battery terminal do not allow wrench to contact positive terminal.
Recommendations:
1.
Always install the tensioner and belt per vehicle manufacturer's guidelines.
2.
Install a memory saver in vehicle and then disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will save radio station presets as well as computer
settings.
3.
Take note of the under hood belt routing diagram. If missing, refer to Fig 1.
4.
Release the serpentine belt tension using a serpentine belt tensioner release tool or a 19mm box end wrench to rotate the tensioner arm in the
clockwise (down) direction. This must be done slowly (3seconds). Fig 2
5.
Remove serpentine belt and discard. Note: Never cut a belt off while under tension.
6.
Remove the upper tensioner strut nut.
7.
Remove the tensioner mounting bolt from the tensioner. Remove tensioner from engine and discard tensioner assembly.
Note: Do not discard the upper tensioner strut nut or the tensioner mounting bolt and as they will need to be reused.
8.
Before installing the new tensioner, ensure that both mounting surfaces are clean and free of debris.
9.
Install the new tensioner onto the engine and tighten tensioner mounting bolt to 60 ft lbs/80Nm. Note: Only hand tighten the upper tensioner
strut nut at this time. This nut will be tightened in step 14 after belt installation.
10.
Remove the solid alternator pulley and ensure the alternator shaft and threads are clean and free from any burrs.
11.
Install New OAD pulley onto alternator shaft by hand and then tighten with Miller special tool #8433A to 47-62 ft lbs/65-85Nm. (See fig3)
12.
Press the new OAD cap onto OAD pulley by hand ensuring a complete seal all the way around the cap.
13.
Install new serpentine belt around each pulley except the alternator pulley. Now rotate the tensioner in the clockwise (down) direction and slip
the belt on to the alternator pulley. While holding the tensioner in clockwise direction, remove and discard the locking pin in the tensioning
strut. Slowly allow tensioner to move in the counter clockwise (up) direction until the belt is tensioned. Note: Refer to Figure 1 or under hood
sticker for proper belt routing. Check and ensure that belt ribs are properly seated in all the pulley grooves.
14.
Tighten the upper strut nut to 18ftlbs/25 Nm.
15.
Reconnect the battery and remove memory saver.
16.
Check that the belt travel area is clear and then start engine to check serpentine belt operation.
17.
Stop engine and again check that all of the belt ribs are in the pulley grooves.
Note: Never run the engine with the updated tensioner and a solid alternator pulley!
Time saving "Tech Tips":
•
Use the proper tool to rotate the tensioner. We recommend the Lisle® # 57900 or the Snap-on® # YA9350, however a 19mm box end wrench or 19mm
socket and breaker will work as well.
•
Removal of the solid pulley nut on the alternator can be done without removing the alternator from the vehicle. Simply use a 3/8" impact gun with a
short socket.
•
Do not use an impact gun to install the OAD onto the alternator. Always use the proper tool. We recommend Miller special tool # 8433A

SAFETY REMINDER:
REMOVE ALL TOOLS FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BEFORE RUNNING ENGINE.
REMEMBER: ALWAYS USE CAUTION WHEN DISCONNECTING THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMIAL TO ENSURE YOUR
WRENCH DOES NOT CONTACT THE POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL.
