obstructed.
When installing the alternator, it is important to avoid the possibility
of the direct suction of hot air expelled from the alternator outlet and/
or from the prime mover.
⇒ Before starting up the alternator it is necessary to check (both visu-
ally and manually) that all the terminals on every terminal board are
properly tightened and that the rotor turning is not blocked in any way.
If the alternator has not been used for a long time, it is recommended
to test the winding's insulation resistance to earth before starting up,
taking into account that each individual part has to be isolated from
the others.
Disconnect the alternator's electronic voltage regula-
tor before testing the winding's insulation resistance
to earth with a Megger or with other high voltage
instruments.
The high tensions supplied by the testing instruments
could cause damage to the electronic regulator's
internal components.
Windings with a resistance to earth ≥ 1MΩ with 500Vdc test voltage
are usually considered to be sufficiently insulated.
If the resistance measured is lower than 1MΩ, then the insulation will
have to be restored by drying the winding (using, for example, either
an oven at a temperature between 60°-80°C, or by circulating, through
the wirings, a suitable current coming from an auxiliary source).
It is also necessary to check the earthing of the alternator metal parts
and of the whole generator set and that the earthing itself complies
with any applicable legal requirements.
Mistakes or oversights concerning the earthing may
have fatal effects.
4. ASSEMBLING INSTRUCTIONS
Assembling should be carried out by qualified person-
nel after having first read the manual.
B3/B14 (PRO series) Mounting arrangement
B3/B14 mounting arrangement requires the use of a flexible coupling
between the drive engine and the alternator.
The flexible coupling should not exert any axial or radial forces during op-
eration and it must be tightly mounted on the alternator shaft end. During
assembling please follow the instructions below.
1) Apply the flexible coupling and the flange to the alternator as shown
in figure 1.
Fig. 1
When positioning the flexible coupling, you should let the rotor move
axially towards the NDE bearing once the assembling is done; to do that,
the shaft end shall be positioned as illustrated in figure 2 and according
to the related table.
Fig. 2
2) Place the appropriate hub onto the engine crankshaft, as shown in figure
3.

Fig. 3
3) Mount the coupling's rubber inserts.
4) Couple the alternator to the drive engine by securing, with suitable
screws, the flange to the engine (see figure 4).
Fig. 4
5) Fix the engine-alternator set to the bed-plate using appropriate rubber
anti-vibration dampers.
Special attention must be paid not to cause any tension that may affect
the natural alignment of the two machines.
6) Make sure that the alternator's non-driving end bearing has the recom-
mended expansion allowance (min. 3mm.) and that it is preloaded by
the preload spring.
SAE Mounting arrangement
This mounting arrangement provides a direct coupling between the drive
engine and the alternator.
It is recommended to follow the steps below during assembling:
1) Check that the rotor is positioned correctly, as illustrated in figure 5.
