1. Connect only No. 12 or 14 gauge copper or copper clad
wire to switch. See device for strip length.
2. Do not connect aluminum wire to this device.

Installation
For installations involving more than one control in a wallbox, refer to
Multi-Unit Installations before beginning.

WARNING: Turn power OFF at circuit breaker or remove fuse.

Remove switch mounting screws. Pull switch from wall.
Turn screws
counterclockwise
to loosen.

Identify type of circuit.
SINGLE-POLE circuit:
Insulated wires connected to two
screws of the same color. Replace with
a single-pole or 3-way switch. Follow

Important Note: "Continued Hot"
Your wall switch may have two wires attached to the same screw (see
illustrations below for examples). Tape these two wires together before
disconnecting.

Disconnect switch wires.

Prepare wires. Trim or strip wallbox wires to the length
indicated by the strip gauge on the back of the switch. Use the
same procedure to wire your new switch as was used with the
old switch (see Step 4 and below).
Push-in Terminals: Insert wires fully.

only. For aluminum wire, consult an

Mount and align switch. Replace wallplate.

• Connect the bare copper or
green ground wire to the green
ground screw on the switch.
• Connect one of the insulated
wires removed from the switch
to either of the screws (or push-
in terminals) on the switch. If
two wires were taped together,
connect both wires to the
screw.
• Connect the other insulated
wire removed from the switch
to the other screw (or push-in
terminal) on the switch.
• Note: If you are replacing a
single-pole switch with a 3-
Way switch, the screw on the
opposite side of the different
colored screw, is not used.
Tighten it securely and follow
Light
instructions for single-pole
wiring.
OR
• Connect the green or bare
copper ground wire to the
green ground screw on the
switch.
• Connect the Tagged wire
removed from the switch to
the different-colored screw
(COMMON) (or push-in
terminal) on the switch.
• Connect one of the remaining
wires removed from the switch
to either of the remaining
screws (or push-in terminal) on
the switch.
• Connect the last wire removed
from the switch to the

remaining screw (or push-in
terminal) on the switch.
Light
Align switch and
tighten screws
clockwise.
