IEC/EN 61800-3: "Adjustable Speed Electrical Power Drive Systems"
- Definition of Environments:
First Environment: environments that include domestic installations, like establishments
connected without intermediate transformers to the low voltage network, which supplies
installations of domestic use.
Example: houses, apartments, commercial installations or offices located in residential
buildings.
Second Environment: environments that include all the establishments that are not directly
connected to the low voltage network, which supplies installations of domestic use.
Example: industrial areas, technical areas of buildings supplied by a dedicated transformer.
- Categories:
Category C1: drives with voltages lower than 1000V, for use in the "First Environment".
Category C2: drives with voltages lower than 1000V, that do not have plugs or mobile
installations. When used in the "First Environment" they must be installed and started by
professionals.
Note: by professionals, one can understand a person or organization with knowledge in the
installation and/or starting of drives, including their EMC aspects.
Category C3: drives with voltages lower than 1000V, developed for use in the "Second
Environment" and not intended for use in the "First Environment".
Category C4: drives with voltages equal to or greater than 1000V, or with nominal currents
equal to or greater than 400A or developed for use in complex systems in the "Second
Environment".
EN 55011: "Threshold values and measuring methods for radio interference from
industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) high-frequency equipment"
Class B: equipment used in public networks (condominiums, commerce and light industry).
Class A1: equipment used in public networks. Restricted distribution.
Note: when used in public networks they should be installed and started by professionals.
Class A2: equipment used in industrial networks.
