To register the phone in SIP mode, proceed to Configuring a 5212/5224 IP
Phone to SIP Mode.
To register the phone in MiNET mode, perform the following steps:
If prompted, enter a valid PIN, and then press
register the phone.
After the date and time display, proceed with the next step.
Slide the designation card under the plastic lens on the front on the phone.
(Optional) Connect a network device to the PC port. If desired, thread the
PC cable through the slot on the back of the installed base unit, as shown
for the LAN cable in
above.

IMPORTANT: You must upgrade to SIP Release 5.0.0.20 before upgrading
to SIP Release 6.0.

To configure the phone to SIP mode using the default settings:
Press and hold * and 7 simultaneously while powering up the phone. The
display indicates "Mode Change to SIP".
When the display indicates "Change Confirmed", do one of the following:
• for standard SIP mode, wait for the phone to boot.
• for Enhanced SIP mode, immediately hold down the 3 and 6 keys
until the display indicates "SIP Lock".
NOTE:
You must hold down the 3 and 6 keys during the time that the "Change Con-
firmed" display is active.
NOTE:
Once you have entered SIP Enhanced mode, you can no longer toggle to MiNET
mode.
Slide the designation card under the plastic lens on the front of the phone.
(Optional) Connect a network device to the PC port on the back of the
phone.
NOTE:
The SIP default configuration uses the default network settings in DHCP mode.
NOTE:
To return the phone to MiNET mode (from standard SIP mode only) using the
default settings, press and hold * and 6 simultaneously while powering up the
phone. After thephone boots, it is returned to MiNET mode.
SIP Network Configuration
If you are configuring a 5212 IP Phone, press * , 0 and # to select menu items
indicated on the display. For example, want to select YES, press * on the
keypad. If you are configuring a 5224 IP Phone, press the three softkeys to
select menu items indicated on the display.
To configure the phone to standard SIP by configuring the network settings:
1. Press both Up and Down Arrow keys simultaneously while powering up the
phone. NETWORK SETTINGS? appears.
2. Press NO until PHONE MODE? appears, and then press YES.
PROTOCOL? appears.
3. Press YES. PHONE MODE: MiNET appears.
4. Press CHANGE, and then press SIP. PHONE MODE: SIP appears.
5. Press ACCEPT. STORE CHANGES? appears.
6. Press YES. SAVING TO NVRAM. Do Not Remove Power appears, followed by
NVRAM SAVE COMPLETE and REBOOT NOW?.
NOTE:

1. Press NO. PROTOCOL? appears.
2. Press NO, and then press YES to exit the menu. PHONE MODE? appears.
3. Press NO until NETWORK SETTINGS? appears, and then press YES.
MODIFY SETTINGS? appears.
4. Press YES. NETWORK TYPE <current type> appears.
5. Press CHANGE, press the desired network type (i.e. LAN, xDSL, Cable), and then
press ACCEPT. STORE CHANGES? appears.
6. Press YES.
SAVING TO NVRAM. Do Not Remove Power appears, followed by NVRAM SAVE
COMPLETE and REBOOT NOW?.
7. Press YES. When the date and time appear, the reboot is complete and the phone is
in SIP mode.

Turn the phone so that the front faces away from you.
Hold the base unit so that the lower hooks along the flat edge bend toward
the bottom edge of the phone.
Hinge the hooks of the base unit into the notches on the back of the phone
and snap into place as follows:
a) For a high-angle mount, hinge the two lower hooks into the bottom set
of notches and snap the two upper hooks into the middle set of
notches.
b) For a low-angle mount, hinge the two lower hooks into the middle sets
of notches and snap the two upper hooks into the top set of notches.
Wall Mounting on a Wall Plate (NA only) (See Figure
Turn the base unit so that the hooks on the flat edge of the base unit bend
toward the top edge of the phone. Hinge the two upper hooks into the top set
of notches and snap the two lower hooks into the middle set of notches on
the back of the phone.
Secure the base unit using the two screws provided (found in a separate
package with the phone).
Plug the phone cord into the wall jack.
Place the base unit on the wall plate post, and then push down until the unit
is firmly seated.
Using your index finger, lift the clip (from the top) located below the
hookswitch, turn the clip 180 degrees, and then let the clip snap into place
to form a hook. (The hook keeps the handset in the cradle when the phone
is wall mounted.)
Do not reboot the phone at this time.
For xDSL, an Internet Service Provider user name and password are required.
