Welding protection for vehicles
ENG
It avoids destructions of the automobile electronics (ABS, airbag) when welding or loading the
built-in vehicle battery.
Advantages of using
Disconnecting battery is not required
No damages on the automobile electronics
No reprogramming of radio, clock,...
Including control LED for battery connection
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS:
Connect one of the clamps to the plus and one to the minus pole of the vehicle battery. Reverse
polarity is not possible.
ATTENTION:
The use of the device when welding is on your own responsibility, since damages on the
automobile electronics might have taken place beforehand. Later on it is not possible to proof,
if the clamping contacts were connected properly. The product WP11 is tested a 100% and can
be returned to the manufacturer for functional test at any time against reimbursement of cost.
General information
The sensitive automobile electronics might get damaged due to overvoltage generated during
processes such as welding or battery loading. The serial vehicle electrical system (12+24V) is
only designed for short-term overvoltage of up to 42 volts.
If you do not want to disconnect the battery from the vehicle electrical system, it is
recommended to clamp an additional device (welding protection WP11) between the battery
poles. It is equipped with an EPCOS varistor which reduces all occurring voltage peaks to
harmless 32 volts, e.g. when welding in the range of 400-800 amperes.
Site of operation
Due to its disconnecting limit at 32 volts the welding protection WP11 is appropriate for all
vehicles equipped with vehicle electrical systems of 12 and 24 volts. In order to attain safety in
modern vehicles with a battery installed in the interior and an additional battery tapping point in
the engine compartment, we recommend installing a WP11 at both points.
Battery connection / Current flow
For WP11 oversized battery clamps with large contact pressure are used, which are actually
designed for transferring much larger currents. In the same way as for the battery jumper cable,
it is sufficient to apply it to the battery pole and shortly turn it to both directions, in order to
guarantee a safe connection contact. Additionally, an illuminated LED confirms to the user that
the battery is correctly connected.
Since the WP11 is clamped parallel to the battery no current flows to a consumer load such as
e.g. for a battery jumper cable, but only voltage peaks are compensated with lowest flows.
Functional guaranty
Guaranty for occurred damages on the electronics cannot be granted, since it is not possible to
prove if the WP11 was actually properly attached during the welding process. We only
guarantee for the function of the WP11. Before delivery, all devices are subject to an individual
check in order to guarantee their function.
