1. Validity
These safety instructions are valid for the interface converter VEGACONNECT 3 acc. to the EC
type approval certificate no. PTB 01 ATEX 2007 (certificate number on the type label).
2. General
The interface converter VEGACONNECT 3 is an appropriate intrinsically safe instrument; it is
used for conversion of standard RS 232 signals to the VEGA specific VBUS signal, for
conversion to the industrial standard communication signal HART and to the serial standard
I²C BUS signal.
The instrument must only be operated outside of the hazardous areas resp. in the hazardous
area provided there is no explosive atmosphere.
The interface converter VEGACONNECT 3 is also used for a galvanical separation of the
intrinsically safe circuits from the non-intrinsically safe circuits.
If the interface converter VEGACONNECT 3 is used with sensors which are installed and
operated in hazardous areas, please observe the general Ex installation regulations and these
safety instructions.
The operating instructions and the general installation regulations for electrical equipments
must be generally observed.
The installation of Ex-systems must be generally made by trained personnel.
VEGACONNECT 3 is connected via fix mounted connection cables
a) to a digital interface RS 232 (not intrinsically safe)
b) to a certified intrinsically safe VEGA sensor e.g. VEGAPULS, VEGASON,
VEGAFLEX, VEGACAP or to a certified intrinsically safe VEGADIS 50EX.
