Emissivity
The emissivity is a value used to specify the energy radiation characteristics
of a material. The greater the value, the greater the capability of the material
to transmit radiation. Many organic materials and surfaces have an
emissivity of approx. 0.95. A list with the emission values for several
materials is enclosed. Metallic surfaces or shiny materials have a low
emissivity. Therefore, the Testboy
Despite the adjustable emissivity , it is not recommended to measure glossy
surfaces (stainless steel etc.). More accurate measurement values can be
obtained if the measurement location is masked using black paint or
adhesive tape. Measurements cannot be carried out through transparent
surfaces, e.g. glass. The temperature of the surfaces of the glass area is
measured instead.
Changing the setting for the emissivity
Keep the button MODE pressed for approx. 3 Sec. until the symbol "
flashes on the display. Using the buttons (7) and (8), the emissivity required
can now be set.
In order to return to the measuring mode, again keep the button MODE
pressed for approx. 3 seconds.
