This instruction manual describes the proper use of the product and serves to prevent hazards. It must be
read and followed.
The warranties made by MSA with respect to the product are voided if the product is not used and serviced
in accordance with the instructions in this manual.
Choice and use of filtering devices are beyond the control of MSA but are the responsibility of the user.
Therefore, the liability of MSA covers only the consistent quality of this product.

1 DESCRIPTION and ORDERING INFORMATION
The appliances described in these Instructions for Use are in conformity with the Directive 89/686/EU.
These Instructions for Use are applicable to the Smoke Hood according to EN 403 S.

2 SELECTION and USE
The escape device Smoke Hood is designed exclusively for self rescue from fire situations.
The appliance is made for one single use of maximum 15 minutes. Due to its size the Smoke Hood
must only be used by adult persons.
The Smoke Hood is a filtering device dependent from the ambient atmosphere, it does not provide
protection from oxygen deficiency.
The Smoke Hood protects the user's head, eyes and respiratory organs against fire gases, smoke and
carbon monoxide.
3 USE (refer also to pictogram on pouch)
ATTENTION: The unit must not be used, if the packaging is damaged or opened!
• Remove Smoke Hood in its foilbag from the tamperproof sealed carrying pouch (Pictogram
• Tear open foil bag by the chamfer, remove and unfold Smoke Hood (Pictogram
• Put both hands inside the neck seal, with the middle fingers grasp the two tabs at the sides of the
mask and stretch the neck seal open (Pictogram
• Pull hood over the head, position mask over chin and nose, and then pull hood down over the back of
head.
• Ensure that the mask is positioned correctly and securely over nose and mouth and that the neck seal
is in contact all round the neck (Pictogram
• Breathe calmly, leave hazard zone.
4 STORAGE, SHELF LIFE
The Smoke Hood should be stored in dry, clean and cool conditions out of direct sunlight.
The device is designed for storage, it should not be carried on the person.
The carrying pouch and its tamperproof seal must remain intact prior to use, the foil bag must only be
opened for use. If foil bag is damaged or opened replace unit by a new Smoke Hood.
The shelf life expiry date is indicated on the carrying pouch (see: Next Inspection Date).
Before expiry, contact the MSA service.
The MSA service will check, whether the shelf life can be extended.
