Charging process interrupted
If the „Fault" display lights up and the charge process is
interrupted, press the RESET button. The battery charger is
restarted.
If the „Fault" display is still lit up together with:
the „50 % of battery capacity" display, the battery is
faulty and needs to be replaced.
the „80 % of battery capacity" display, the battery
cannot hold the charge. The battery must be replaced.
the „Battery discharged" display, it is not possible to
charge the battery. Contact a qualified specialist
workshop.
Note
Lithium batteries must be activated for charging if
necessary. When the lithium battery is connected, press the
RESET button for at least ten seconds until one of the
indicator lamps (5-8) lights up.
If the „Fault" display continues to light up, please contact a
qualified specialist workshop.
If the „100 % battery capacity" (trickle charge) display does
not light up after a charging time of 50 h (or 24 h for lithium
batteries), there is a fault. Contact a qualified specialist
workshop.
Connecting the battery charger and starting the
charging process
Connecting the battery charger to the jump-starting
connection point

Open the bonnet.

Connect the red clamp of charging cable (2) to the
vehicle's positive terminal.
3.
Connect the black clamp of charging cable (2) to the
vehicle's earth point.
Note
Information on the location of the positive terminal and the
earth point can be found in the „Jump-starting" section of
your vehicle Owner's Manual.

4.
Connect charging cable (2) to battery charger (1) as
shown.
Connecting the battery charger to a 12 V socket
M-Class (W 163) and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren (C 199)
vehicles are equipped with a special 12 V socket in the boot
which can be used to charge the battery.
Important
The battery charger must not be connected to the
cigarette lighter or the standard 12 V socket in the
vehicle.
Vehicles that are not equipped with a special 12 V socket
can have one retrofitted at a qualified specialist workshop.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you use a Mercedes-Benz
Service Centre.

1.
Open the boot.
2.
Fold cover (10) upwards and insert 12 V plug of
charging cable (3) into 12 V socket (11).
3.
Connect charging cable (3) to battery charger (1) as
shown.
