1 Introduction
The Sandberg Hard Disk Converter (referred to
as "the adapter") resolves a well-known
connection problem, allowing you to connect
your old IDE hard disk to a SATA connector on
a newer motherboard, or connect your new
SATA hard disk to an IDE connector on an older
motherboard. The adapter can be installed in
just a few minutes, and it can be stored out of
the way inside your computer, leaving your
external adapter solutions free.
2 Installation
1. Switch off your computer and disconnect all
the cables.
2. Open the case.
2.1 Using an IDE hard disk on a SATA connection
in your computer
1. Connect the wide IDE connector of the adapter
to the IDE connector on your hard disk.
2. Connect one end of the enclosed SATA cable
to the SATA connector called "SATA HOST
=>IDE HD" on the adapter. Connect the other
end of the SATA cable to a SATA connector
in your computer.
3. Connect the small white connector on the
enclosed power cable to the power connector
on the adapter. Connect the large connector
on the cable to a power connector in your
computer.
4. Close the case and switch on the computer.
The computer will now detect the hard disk
as a SATA hard disk.
NB: The hard disk does not receive power
through the adapter, so both the hard disk and
the adapter must be connected to power
connectors in your computer.
2.2 Using a SATA hard disk on an IDE connection
in your computer
1. Connect one end of the enclosed SATA cable
to the SATA connector called "IDE HOST
=>SATA HD" on the adapter (the designation
is on the back of the adapter). Connect the
other end of the SATA cable to the SATA
connector on your hard disk.
2. Connect the small white connector on the
enclosed power cable to the power connector
on the adapter. Connect the large connector
on the cable to a power connector in your
computer.
3. Connect the wide IDE connector of the adapter
to the IDE connector in your computer.
4. Close the case and switch on the computer.
The computer will now detect the hard disk
as an IDE hard disk.
NB: The hard disk does not receive power
through the adapter, so both the hard disk and
the adapter must be connected to power
connectors in your computer.
