Note: Striping reduces data security. Should a
fault arise on one disk, all data on the other
becomes unusable. Therefore striping is
recommended only for environments where
temporary data is written to the disk, or
environments where frequent and thorough
backups are carried out.
4 Configuring a Mirrored Disk Set
The RAID is configured from the integrated BIOS
on the RAID card. When the computer is started,
a line will appear during startup saying "Press
(Ctrl+S) or F4 to enter RAID Utility".
1. Press "F4" and wait for the BIOS configuration
to start.
2. Select "Create RAID set" and click "Enter".
3. Select "Mirrored" and press "Enter".
NB: When you create a mirrored disk set, all
data is deleted on the target drive on which the
mirror is stored.
Select "Auto configuration" and press "Enter"
to configure the RAID set automatically. Select
this option if you want to create a mirrored set
with two new hard disks.
• To create the RAID set, press "Y". To cancel,
press "N".
• Press "Ctrl+E" to exit the menu.
Your mirrored RAID set is now configured.
Select "Manual configuration" and press "Enter"
to configure the RAID set manually. Select this
option if you want to create a mirrored set with
one hard disk that already contains data and that
you want to mirror.
• Select "Source drive" (Source drive = drive
containing the data to be mirrored)
• Select "Target drive" (Target drive = drive data
is written to)
• Select "Yes" to begin copying data between
the connected disks
• Select "Offlinecopy" to write data while
Windows is started
• Select "Onlinecopy" to write data immediately
Once copying is complete, your mirrored disk
set is configured.
NB: If your mirrored disk set consists of two new
disks, these must be partitioned before you can
use them. See the section "Partitioning and
formatting" on page 7.
5 Configuration of striped disk set
RAID configuration is carried out from the integral
BIOS on the RAID card. When the computer is
starting up, a line will appear that says "Press
(Ctrl+S) or F4 to enter RAID Utility".
1. Press "F4" and wait for the BIOS configuration
to start.
2. Select "Create RAID set" and press "Enter".
3. To create a striped disk set select "Striped".
Note: When creating a striped disk set, all data
on the disks to be included in the disk set will
be deleted.
