Charging the Battery Pack
TDS3CHG Battery Charger Instructions
NOTE.
Refer to the TDS3BATC Rechargable Battery Pack Instructions (Tektronix
part number 071-0900-04) for information on storage, transportation, and
end-of-life recycling or disposal of the TDS3BATC Lithium-Ion battery pack.
For optimum performance, charge any battery pack before using it for the first
time or after prolonged storage.
Several charge and discharge cycles may be required before the TDS3BAT NiCad
battery pack can charge to its full capacity.
TDS3BAT NiCad batteries appear to lose capacity if not allowed to occasionally
discharge completely. Every few months, run your oscilloscope until it shuts
down and then recharge the battery pack completely to keep your battery pack
at peak performance.
To discharge any battery pack completely, continue to run the oscilloscope on the
battery pack until automatic shutdown occurs. The display may turn white a few
minutes before the automatic shutdown to allow the oscilloscope to completely
discharge the battery pack.
CAUTION.
To prolong the life of the battery pack and to prevent shutdown, do not
use or charge the battery pack at high temperatures. For best results, allow the
battery pack to cool to room temperature before using or charging the battery
pack.
The battery pack disconnects from charging under the following conditions:
The battery pack is fully charged.
The battery pack temperature exceeds +45 °C (113 °F).
The charge time exceeds 4.5 hours with the TDS3BAT battery, or 6.5 hours
with the TDS3BATC battery.
When the battery pack is in the oscilloscope, the gauge icon
indicates the amount of charge.
NOTE.
The TDS3CHG external charger may increase the available charge and
reset the gauge to a higher level. Subsequent charges using the oscilloscope
may indicate less than a full charge.
