Use
Preparing the mask: Open the straps as faras they will go; if a carrier strap
is fitted, place the carrier strap around your neck and button it to the front
head strap.
Fitting the mask: Beards and sideburns in the
sealing area of the face mask will cause leaks.
Therefore the face mask should not be used by
anyone with facial hair of this sort. Spectacle
frames in the sealing area also cause leaks. Use
special mask spectacle frames. Undo the carrier
strap. Insert chin in chin-piece.
Fit harness over head, pulling back until the head
strap fits smoothly. Adjust mask until it fits
properly.
1 Tighten neck straps evenly.
2 Tighten temple straps evenly.
3 Tighten front strap as necessary.

Leak test: Press and hold down the button and insert the demand valve
into the mask connector. Release the button and check that the demand
valve is properly engaged. Seal the plug-in nipple on the medium pressure
hose with your thumb. Breathe in to produce a negative pressure (suction
effect on thumb). Hold your breath for a moment. The negative pressure
should be maintained. If not retighten the straps. Repeat the leak test two
times.
Never use a mask that leaks.
Exhalation valve check: Seal the plug-in nipple and breathe out forcefully.
The exhaled air must be able to escape without obstruction. If not, refer to
the instructions in "Visual inspection of exhalation valve".
Connect the positive pressure compressed air breathing apparatus or
positive pressure fresh air hose respirator
Extreme operating conditions
In case of low temperatures: Treat the inside of the visor with "klar-pilot"
anti misting gel to prevent it from fogging up
In case of high temperatures: Leave the danger zone immediately if visor
is damaged.
In case of cyclic thermal stress: For visors marked PC/C, the coating of
the visor may blister and come loose in places. After wiping off the burst
particles, the mask can safely continue to be used until the end of the inter-
vention. Replace the visor after use.
In the presence of chemicals: Substances such as H
may be absorbed by the materials of the full-face mask, especially silicone,
or may diffuse through it.
In explosion-hazard areas: Treat the mask with anti-static spray or work
with a screen of water mist.
After use
Disconnecting the demand valve: Press and hold down the button and
remove the demand valve.
Removing mask: Insert index finger behind the
tabs on the neck straps and press the buckles
forwards with thumb, pulling the mask forward
off your face and then up and back over your
head.
Cleaning: The mask must be cleaned whenever
it has been used. Do not use solvents, such as
acetone, alcohol, etc. to clean rubber and silicone parts. The mask must be
thoroughly rinsed in lukewarm water containing a little all-purpose

detergent
Sekusept Cleaner (Henkel-Ecolab, D-40589 Düsseldorf,
Germany) and a cloth. Rinse thoroughly under running water.
Disinfection: The mask must be disinfected whenever it has been used.
Immerse the mask in the disinfectant. Only use approved disinfectants
such as Incidur (Henkel-Ecolab, D-40589 Düsseldorf, Germany). High
doses and long exposure times can damage the mask! Rinse thoroughly
under running water.
Drying: Leave to dry in a drying cabinet (R 28 305) or in air. Maximum
temperature 60 °C. Keep out of direct sunlight.
Testing
The mask must be tested every time it has been used, repaired or serviced.
Test equipment and test accessories: Testor R 53 400, Adapter
R 53 345, Exhalation valve plug R 53 346.
Visual inspection of the speech diaphragm
O-ring must be clean and undamaged. If not, clean or replace.
Visual inspection of inhalation valve: The inhalation valve is visible in the
mask connector. Check by blowing into it that both wings of the valve disc
move freely. Replace if seized
Visual inspection of exhalation valve: Remove the protective cap from the
connector. Press one arm of the spring clamp inwards and remove the
clamp. Hold valve disc by the nipple and lift out of guide. The valve disc and
seat must be clean and undamaged. Clean or replace if necessary.
Moisten valve disc with water and refit. When
the seat is horizontal, the valve disc must slide
into the guide under its own weight. Fit spring
clamp and spring so that both clamp arms
engage at the sides. The clamp is marked
"L"= left and "R" = right and fits at an angle.
