- Reduce the ground speed.
- Do not work where the grass is too tall. If necessary, remove
any material that has built up at the sides of the rotor to prevent
overheating.
The machine jolts over the ground or vibrates
- Foreign bodies locked between the knives.
- Knives incorrectly mounted without the helical arrangement or
with edges that dig into the ground.
- Worn or broken knives.
- Rotor misshapen owing to blows received during work from for-
eign bodies in the central part.
Other faults
The machine fails to work evenly along its length, shredding ei-
ther too much or too little on one side, for example on the right:
shorten the right link.
Work on hilly ground
Proceed "upwards" in the direction of the slope.

4.4 TINES

The hammers/knives with which the machine is equipped are suit-
able for work with soil/plants of normal conformation. Check their
condition each day to make sure they are not worn. If them should
accidentally bend (or break) during work, they must be immedi-
ately replaced and mounted in the identical position.
Tool replacement (hammers or knives) is a dangerous op-
eration.
Proceed in the following way to replace the tools:
- Park the tractor on a flat surface with the machine hitched, then
raise the machine with the power lift;
- Insert two strong bearing stands at the sides of the machine;
- Lower the machine on to the stands, turn off the tractor engine
and apply the parking brake.
The knives must always be replaced in diametrically opposite pairs
in order to keep the rotor in a balanced condition.
Proceed as described below to replace worn or broken knives:
- remove the nut 1 (Fig. 9) of the bolt that fastens the worn knives.
Check the positions of the various components during the as-
sembly phase, particularly those of the spacers 2 (Fig. 9). Re-
member to mount the new knives and the other parts in the
same positions;
- check the bolts for wear and replace the self-locking nuts.
If the knives become clogged, it is strictly forbidden to at-
tempt to clean the machine whilst it is operating. First disen-
gage the PTO, stop the tractor and apply the parking brake.
Wait until all moving parts have come to a complete stand-
still and only then proceed with the cleaning operations us-
ing the utmost caution.

4.5 ACCESSORIES

All cutters are pre-engineered so that certain accessories can be
mounted:
- hydraulic movement of the 3-point hitch;

- side skids;

- rear rakes;

- fixed or steering rear wheels.

Only mount accessories supplied by the Manufacturer since they
are specifically designed and built for use with the relative ma-
chines.
4.5.1 SIDE SKIDS
The side skids (1 Fig. 10) can be applied to the sides of the cutter
and set a fixed cutting height established by the Manufacturer.
They are used to mow grass on lawns where a uniform cut is
required.
4.5.2 FIXED OR STEERING REAR WHEELS
Accessory mounted in place of the bearing roller (Fig. 9).
They are used when the maize stalks must be shredded on the
field after the harvesting operations have been carried out, or
where there is thick stubble or undergrowth and shrubs in gen-
eral.

4.6 STOPPING THE MACHINE

At the end of the job, the operator must:
- Disengage the tractor PTO.
- Lower the machine to the ground by means of the power lift.
- Stop the tractor and engage the parking brake.
- Make sure that all parts of the machine are at a standstill.
Only after the above mentioned operations have been carried out
may the operator leave the tractor unattended.

4.6.1 PARKING

- At the end of the job, the machine must be parked on a flat,
suitable surface.
- Stop the tractor and apply the parking brake.
- With the tractor stopped and all components at a complete
standstill, remove the driveline from the PTO of the tractor.
- Unhitched the machine from the tractor.
The place in which the machine is parked must be:
- Dry.
- Sheltered from adverse weather conditions.
- Guarded or locked up to prevent children or unauthorized
persons from freely accessing the machine.
If the machine is to remain idle for a long period of time, lu-
bricate the parts subject to wear and store the machine in a
dry, sheltered place, covered with a plastic sheet.
This will ensure that the machine is in the ideal condition
when required again.

Maintenance

5.1 ROUTINE MAINTENANCE

The various routine maintenance operations are described be-
low.
Remember that lower running costs and longer machine life de-
pend on continual compliance with these instructions.
