Bominox, S.A. - Installation and Maintenance Instructions

General aspects

1.1 Introduction
This installation and maintenance technical instructions manual contains very important information for
installing the pump correctly. It is also very important for preventing possible accidents before and after
installation.
• Before starting up or handling the pump, carefully read this manual, especially the paragraphs about
safety with the
icon, and keep it in a permanent location near the installation for future consultation.
If you do not understand any of the information, please contact Bominox.
• Personnel responsible for the installation, operation and
maintenance of the pumps must be duly trained and their
responsibilities must be perfectly defined by the person
responsible for the plant.
• Bominox reserves the right to modify the design of its
pumps when it is so deems opportune without having to
adapt any other product supplied previously. The same
applies to the technical documentation delivered with
each pump.
• Each pump has a specification plate with all the basic
information. It also includes the serial number. For further
information and/or complaints about the pumps supplied,
the serial number must be indicated.
1.2 Receiving and transport
On receiving the merchandise, check the integrity of the packaging and its content to ensure there is no
damage. If it is not in perfect condition communicate to the transport agent as soon as possible so that
a report of the damage can be made.
Take the packaged pumps to the area nearest to their final location. Use appropriate elevation and
transport resources. Most of the pumps are too heavy to be handled by hand; in this case it is
recommended to use elevation straps. On the pumps with fairing on the motors the stainless steel
shroud must be removed before handling the pump in order to avoid damaging it.
If the pump is not installed when it arrives, its shaft must be turned every so often in order to prevent the
friction plates on the mechanical seal from seizing.
1.3 Sound emissions
If the level of sound emissions in the pump's operating area exceeds 80 dB the operators must use
special hearing protection pursuant to current regulation.
1.4 Extended disuse
If the pump will not be used for a long period of time, the liquid must be totally drained and it must be
very carefully cleaned. When starting it up again check the condition of the parts, especially the
mechanical seal, and then proceed as indicated in the manual.
1.5 Cleaning the pump
Cleaning the pump is necessary in any process in the food and pharmaceutical industry, and is
recommended for other uses.
The procedure, frequency and products used in cleaning vary depending on the production process
must be defined by the user pursuant to rules, regulations and standards in the sector.
The CIP (Cleaning In Place) system is sufficient for cleaning the pump, or it can be disassembled. It is
recommended to clean the pump whenever products have been pumped that tend to crystallise in order
to extend the life of the mechanical seal.
1.5.1 CIP cleaning
The CIP cleaning system is an automatic in situ cleaning system that does not require the production
equipment to be disassembled. It involves recirculating the cleaning solution through the components
of the process line such as tubes, barrels, accessories and pumps. The cleaning solution passes at high
speed through the line, generating the fiction required to eliminate dirtiness. It must always be taken into
account that the solution must be suitable for all the services and materials through which it circulates.
