BEFORE FIRST USE
Please follow the information on the use of BRITA
cartridges and the BRITA
Remove any packaging/promotional material from the
kettle.
Open the lid and lift out the filter funnel. Wash it in warm,
soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly then replace the
filter funnel.
Position the kettle on a dry, level, stable, secure work
surface.
Before connecting to a power source, make sure your
mains supply voltage is the same as the one indicated on
the appliance. Connect the plug to a suitable power outlet
and make sure that the power cord does not overhang
the work surface.
Remove the filter cartridge and follow Preparing the
BRITA MAXTRA cartridge instructions.

PREPARING THE CARTRIDGE
1. Remove the cartridge from its wrapping. Immerse the
cartridge in cold water and shake in gently to remove
any air bubbles (figure 1).
2. Insert the cartridge into the filter funnel and push it
firmly into place (figure 2).
3. Fill the filter funnel with cold tap water and allow it to
filter through (figure 3).
4. Discard the water. Repeat this process, again
discarding the water (figure 4).
5. Refill the filter funnel with water - the BRITA
MAXTRA cartridge is now ready for use.
When it is time to replace the BRITA
cartridge after 4 weeks use, simply lift the handle on top
of the cartridge and pull upwards to remove. BRITA

USING THE BRITA
It is important to change your BRITA
regularly to enjoy the benefits of BRITA
Filtering your water improves the look and taste of hot
drinks by reducing limescale (carbonate hardness),
chlorine and other impurities.
The BRITA
®
filter cartridge needs to be changed.
When you have fitted and prepared your filter cartridge,
start the Memo as follows:
1. Press and hold the Start button until 4 bars appear
on the display and flash twice (figure 5). The Memo is
now set.

2. The flashing dot in the corner of the display indicates
that the Memo is working (figure 6).
3. Every week, one bar will disappear to indicate the
remaining cartridge life (figure 7). When only one bar
is showing, check that you have a replacement filter
cartridge available.
4. After 4 weeks, all four bars will disappear and a
flashing arrow will appear to indicate that the cartridge
should be replaced (figure 8).
Wash and dry the filter funnel, insert a new cartridge and
restart the Memo. The Memo is only intended to be used
with BRITA
®
IF THE KETTLE BOILS DRY
If your kettle is operated with insufficient water a built
in safety device will automatically switch it back off
preventing damage. If this should happen:
• Unplug your kettle and allow it to cool. When your
kettle has cooled down sufficiently the safety device
will reset itself.
• Once the safety device has reset, refill your kettle with
cold water and use it as normal.
CLEANING
1. Unplug the kettle from the mains supply socket and
allow it to completely cool down before cleaning or
descaling it.
2. Clean the exterior surface of the kettle with a damp
cloth and then polish with a soft dry cloth. Do not use
steel wool pads or harsh/abrasive cleaners.
3. Remove the cartridge. Descale your kettle regularly

to keep it working efficiently. Use a descaling product
following the manufacturer's instructions carefully.
