DESCRIPTION
The RIDGID Model HC-300 / HC-450 Hole Cutting Tools are designed to safely cut
holes into steel pipe.
Warning: The HC-300 / HC-450 are not "Hot Tapping Tools" (see RIDGID
RT 3422 and RT1000 Tapping Tools). Care must be taken to ensure the
system is drained and de-pressurised to prevent risk of operator injury!

Set-Up Instructions
Note: Ensure Hole Cutting Tool is unplugged.
1. Determine the size of hole to be cut. See Table 1 for pipe size to hole size
recommendations.
2. Select equal hole saw and arbor to correct hole size. Integral arbor hole saws are
recommended to reduce "chatter". See Table 2 for ordering information.

Note: 53080 Arbor is 5/8" Hex; requires 5/8" chuck. 59502 Arbor and backing plate
is for hole saws larger than 3".
3. Place HC-300 / HC-450 on a bench or ground to install hole saw and arbor into
drill chuck. Make sure 1/4" pilot drill is tight in arbor and exposed by no more
than 3/8".
Note: When branching off an existing system, use a hole saw with the 1/4" pilot
drill. The pilot drill will make it more likely that the pipe slug is retained in the hole
saw.
HC-450
4. Lift HC-450 using front and rear carrying handles. Rear handle can be used for a
rope and pulley system when working on existing overhead pipe. (See Figure 1.)
5. Mount unit in close proximity to hole location. To move unit, loosen chain swivel
handle half a rotation and slide or rotate unit.
6. Secure the unit in the final position.
HC-300
4. It is possible to attach HC-300 to the pipe as a complete assembly or in two
pieces. For two-piece mounting, separate the base from the motor assembly by
lifting the motor while pulling the plunger (fig. 4) located in the rear of the left
post (front view).
5. Mount the base in the proximity of the place to be cut. Lash the chain around
the pipe, pull it slightly to compress the spring mechanism and hook the chain
into the base latch. Use the screw mechanism to fully tighten the chain and
secure the unit in the final position.
6. Lift the HC-300 motor assembly and mount on the two posts by pushing firmly
against the post springs until you hear a "click" sound , indicating that the
plunger latch mechanism is properly engaged (fig. 5).
Note: The HC-300 / HC-450 will operate at all angles relative to the vertical or
horizontal pipe. (See Figure 2.)
Operating instructions
HC-450
Depress one of the «lock-out» switches in the front carrying handle and, with one
hand on the feed handle, press the on/off switch (See Figure 3). Rotate the feed
handle to apply downward pressure on the hole saw. Release the switch to stop
unit.
HC-300
Use on/off switch to start/stop the unit. Rotate the feed handle to apply downward
pressure on the hole saw.
4"
Warning: Cutting time will not be decreased by forcing the hole
saw into the pipe. Maintain constant feed pressure on the hole
5"
Warning: Do not touch hole saw or pipe until they cool down. Remove unit using
both front and rear carrying handles.
Clean area around the hole.
