An extension cord should not be used unless absolutely necessary. Use of
an improper extension cord could result in a risk of fire and electric shock.
If an extension cord must be used, make sure:
a. That the pins on the plug of extension cord are the same number, size,
and shape as those of the plug on charger;
b. That the extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition;
c. That the wire size is large enough for AC ampere rating of the charger
as specified in the following table.

Locate the charger as far away from the battery as the charger cables permit.
5.2
Never place the charger directly above the battery being charged; gases
from the battery will corrode and damage charger.
5.3
Never allow the electrolyte to drip on the charger when taking gravity
readings or filling a battery.
5.4
Operate the charger only in well ventilated area, free of dangerous vapors.
5.5
Store the charger in a safe, dry location and maintain it in perfect condition.
5.6
Do not set the battery on top of charger or where acid might drip onto charger.
