wheel locks have not been designed to be used as brakes for a moving wheelchair. Warning: do not put your
fingers into the braking system.
Always make use of elevators and ramps. If these are not available, you can reach your destination with the aid of
two attendants. They should grip the wheelchair at securely mounted parts. A wheelchair should never be lifted
with an occupant; it should only be pushed.
Before each use, the following should be checked: Quick-release axles (if fitted) on the rear wheels / Tyres, tyre
pressure, and wheel locks. Wheel locks will not function properly if tire pressure is too low or the interval between
tyres and wheel locks is too large.
The maximum user weight is 125 kilograms. Never overload the chair by carrying rucksacks, etc. or a child on your
lap.
Do not attempt to climb or descend gradients of more than 10% with the maximum weight of 125 kg. Always lean
your body towards the top of the slope to correct for changes in the centre of gravity.
Transportation in vehicles: This wheelchair has been crash tested in it's standard configuration. However, due to
safety risks Sunrise Medical do not recommend the transportation of people in their wheelchairs. Should a person
need to be transported in wheelchair on transport systems, the following should be adhered to:
1. The wheelchair must be positioned forward facing.
2. The Unwin restraint system, model 4 point WWR/ATF/K/R or equivalent specification must be used.
3. The restraint system must be fixed as per labelling on the wheelchair. For tie down points on the wheelchair,
please look for the tie-down symbols on the wheelchair.
4. A head restraint must be fitted and suitably positioned at all times during transportation.
(Unwins HR models recommended).
5. If possible remove seat cushion to create a lower centre of gravity.
6. The chair is crash tested and meets the requirements of ISO 7176-19
If the chair has been left in the sun for a long time parts such as the fabric, armrest padding and platforms may
burn the skin on contact.
It is dangerous to tip the chair back so that the front wheels are off the ground: it could overturn and injure you. Do
not attempt to do "wheelies" unless you are an experienced user or are accompanied.
When mounting kerbs and other obstacles, ensure that the anti-tipping wheels are facing backwards so that they
do not become caught on the kerb.
If the push rim is damaged replace it at once: otherwise splinters and chips could injure your hand when you push.
C. HANDLING
1. Opening: Rest both hands on each of the seat upholstery support rails and press down until the seat and back
upholsteries become taut. Lower the footplates into the using position. As a safety measure, the footplates will always
be in an upright position before sitting or getting out of the chair in a forward movement. Warning: Before sitting down
ensure that the seat rails are properly housed in the front structure supports. Warning: Do not place your
fingers between the seat upholstery and the seat tubes when opening or folding the wheelchair. Never open
the chair by pushing on the push hands .
2. Folding: First flip up the (platform) footplate or the individual footplates. Take hold of the sling from underneath in the
middle and pull upwards. The wheelchair will then fold up. To fold your wheelchair until it is as small as possible, e.g.,
to put into a car, you can remove the footrests (depending on the model). For this purpose, open the latch from the out-
side and swing the footrest to the side. Then the footrest only has to be drawn out of the frame tubing. Warning: Do not
put your fingers between the seat upholstery and the tubing of the chair when opening or closing it.
3. Folding backrests (Ref. 115 and 110) (Fig 1)
To fold the backrest, pull upwards the locking piece (A) and then pull downwards the back rest. To assemble: Pull
upwards the back rest and pull downwards the plastic piece (A) to lock it and to secure it in this position . Warning: Be
careful not to catch your fingers when folding down or raising the backrest.
4. Reclining backrest (Refs. 121, 141) (fig.2)
Lowering the backrest: Loose the screw knobs (C) at the bottom of the racks. Lift the two handgrips (A) upwards at the
same time, while keeping the chair steady by its handles. This movement releases the lower racks (B) from their
housings leaving the backrest free to be reclined. Hold the backrest firmly to prevent it from dropping suddenly. If this
should happen, quickly let go off the handgrips (A) so that the racks fall into place and prevent it from falling. With the
handgrips (A) in an upward position, adjust the backrest to the desired angle using the racks' notches. Once this angle
